Yesterday my buddy and I were heading out to an old homestead site that was located near a Confederate camp. While working our way back to the site I hopped out and started hunting in and around an old livestock pin next to a couple of big oak trees. After a while as I was about to give up and go to the part we normally hunt, I hit on a signal that sounded like another chunk of lead shot. Much to my surprise it was my first half dime, dated 1853.

Awesome!!! Congrats!!!

The mint lowered the silver content in 1853 and added arrows to indicate the change. The gov took advantage of the savings and minted 13 million half dimes in 1853, by far the highest number produced for the series. Even with 13 million, still a tough coin to find!

Nice job knocking that little beauty off the bucket list- they're hard to find- Major Congrats!!
