my first good find

I posted this over on the "what is it" forum but I figured now that I know what it is, I would post it here too. I found this in my back yard of all places. Two days of playing around with my first ever metal detector and I am thrilled! I'm hooked!

to be honest, I bought a cheap detector. I needed to find out if this dream of mine to own one and go hunting would last me more than a few months like so many other obsessions/hobbies of mine have gone. I couldn't justify spending 300-400 on a really good one if I was only going to let it sit in the closet to collect dust. At this rate, I'll be buying a nice one by June

well.. it's got two holes in the back so it looks like it was a pin at some time...but I also think it was a locket. When I dug it up, it came apart in two pieces. There doesn't seen to be any sort of hinge on it for it to be a locket, yet the metal on what would be the inside is ridged like a locket would be. (if that makes any sense)

Very pretty....nice find for your first time out....and dont knock your cheap machine....look what you found! There are alot of inexpensive machines out there that get the job done.....I still use a cheap one on occasion .....just learn the machine ..and it will be happy hunting!!!!......Welcome to the forum!

nice find in your yard. my house was build in 1906 and all i found so far was a 1944 fr and a few wheat's. one key. and lots of pull tabs. that looks old , keep it up. i hope it is gold?
