Its been awhile since my last post. Mainly because I havnt found anything exciting in the past couple months. I like to play in the corn fields and what not but its that time of year :BangHead:. Most my sites are large farm land so I have been trying other methods to pass the time. Anyhow a friend I detect with on a regular basis had mentioned that the river running through their property has good potential and there is a 1700s mill site within eye view from their 3 acres of land. Now this property has been hunted by us in the past with some good finds. A few to mention, 2 gold rings, 1 silver ring, a few large cents, Spanish silver. We decided one day to throw a sluice in the river and do some test pans. Success, 31 tiny flakes in the first pan. Your not gonna get rich but we are having a fun time. I pulled out my small snake coil one day and was messing around some bedrock in the grass and then bingo a beautiful shiny nugget was sitting on top. Pulled back the grass checked again with the coil and another nugget. These were my first nuggets found with a detector. Part of the property is on a steep 45 degree incline which hasn't been pounded like the flat land. We did a short 30 min hunt on the hill after playing in the river and we were in for a surprise. Within minutes my partner dug a Liberty Cap and a Matron. Few moments later I found the Token. My friend also found a couple nice tombac buttons. This was all in a 30'x30' patch on the hill. I get this solid tone but jumping from 60s clear up to 85, wants to repeat at 85 and then jumps. I figured it was alumn. and dug it anyway. My heart immediately started pounding out my chest when I flipped the plug. As you see it in the pic is what I saw when I flipped the plug. I dropped everything and could not believe my eyes. My daughter says "daddy are you OK"? LOL This is my first gold coin as well. She is a 1852 One Dollar Gold Coin in beautiful condition. I'm still in Ahhhhhh about this discovery. Had a blast with good friends/ family making some good memories. Thanks for looking and GL&HH.

Congrats on a spectacular find. I havent managed to step over one of those yet. Still on my wish list of finds.

Great find! That is Amazing... and in great condition.. plus the nuggets. :occasion14:

incredible! That is a once in a life time hunt right there!

Stuff came out of an area the previous diggers never got past the ton of aluminum and horse shoes on. Place is full of anything you can imagine. Earliest item found was 1760's tombac button, latest, aluminum cans and 1980's Lincolns. Nothing newer. I think a house (now long gone) and a stable or barn were on the property, which served both an 1840's homestead (still standing) and a 1790's mill, not far off. Place was a fenced pasture for at least 100 years, according to records and the type of antique barbed wire we're finding.

The small, and I do mean small gold comes out of the Wissahickon Schist, you know, schist happens. It goes for miles and miles around here. And Miles. There is better gold north of us, but no permission on that as of yet. That is an igneous intrusion that is well known. There is a GPAA claim about 40 miles away, in the Petersburg schist, which is related to the Wissahickon (think that's spelled right). it's still part of the gold belt that goes from Georgia all the way to Canada. Some of the gold has been found with mercury on it, so the 49'ers were here, trying, once upon a time ago. That was a surprise.

That's an astonishing and wonderful package of gold; the best of both worlds. I'd be mining that creek and scrutinizing the bedrock so obsessively and compulsively that one would think it was essential to my very survival (and probably keel over from exhaustion in the process)! Do you know the weight of the nuggets/flakes you collected? I wonder if PA gold has a higher value in the specialty jewelry market (like black hills gold etc)?

I'll be very impatiently awaiting updates from this place, what an amazing haul.

HOLY MOLY - You already know you're going back to that honeyhole first chance!

In what state/region are you in? Somewhere in the midwest/east??

Thank you Everyone!! :occasion14: Plumbata, the 2 nuggets that I first found while using the detector weight together was .7 of a gram. Didn't weigh the other. I don't know if PA gold is considered a rarity, this was my first creek experience in this area.
Sgolembiewski0903, We have been back many times LOL This was in Lower PA

Wow! I'm so far away in AZ, odds of finding a coin like that are next to nothing, but it could be worse I guess as at least AZ is gold country!

Any success on your return trips?

We hit a pocket day 1 in the creek and after that its been slim to none. The nuggets were found the day before. That's what made us check the creek. We puled dirt from three different areas the first day and mixed up what location produced.??? Long but fun process

Amazing story and finds, finding a gold nugget with a detector is definitely a bucket lister for me and a gold coin of course is on everyones bucket list. Banner all the way!

Fantastic recovery! Congratualtions on the nice assortment of coins. :occasion14:

Thank you Everyone for your nice comments and banner votes. I didn't realize you cant have two banner finds on the board. Even though the finds were 4 months apart you still don't get credited for the banner find on your profile. Once again thank you everyone, going back today for more. fingers crossed

A update: I went back and I hunted for about 30 min. Didn't have much time we were focused on another project. Ended up finding my first seated half, its 1859. Also found a 1881 IHP. Were going to hit it hard someday before the season kicks off. We should grid it. I included the 1852 gold dollar and token in the picture just for kicks, did not find another lol.
