I borrowed a Radio Shack detector from a friend. (It was covered in dirt and battery corrosion from hanging in a barn.) after cleaning it up and looking for a manual online (my first foray into detecting) I learn it's basically a bounty hunter model. I hit the backyard.

My home was built in 1897 in upstate SC. Thought I'd have a decent time there. Dug a ton of junk (fence, posts, rods, etc.) and a few metal squeeze tubes.

On the interesting side I found a 1986 penny, a 1977 penny (it gets better lol,) a couple of ax heads, a toy car and a silver necklace charm. The charm and car were awesome to dig.

So, now I've got my own gear on the way from Big Boy Hobbies. Looking forward to getting more time in.

Great start! Finding silver on your first hunt is great!! Well done! G.L. & H.H.

Not bad for a old borrowed detector that was hanging in a barn. Soon you will learn to listen for certain sounds, and be able to size the target which will keep you from digging a bunch of large stuff and miss the coins. What machine did you order from BBH?

Ahhhh an ole Radio Shack. My very first detector!

Looks like you did well!

Can you take a pic of the detector? I'd love to see if it was like mine. LOL

Welcome and WTG!

My first was a radio shack discovery 2000. The wife's dad got it at a yard sale and gave it to me. It was all taped up along the shaft but I found my first large cent with it and it got me hooked. I still have it and if I ever take a friend out with out a detector I'd let him use it. Haha

Good start. love the car. Now that you are getting the heavy metal out of there keep hitting from different directions and conditions, there's more on there. WTG!

congrats, the finds get more and more interesting and exciting

Thanks everyone!

Pointman: I ordered the Garrett AT Pro kit. It's the digger special that Bart is throwing a Samson shovel in with. And I preordered the pro pointer AT. I know there's very strong brand opinions around thet. I did my researched and finally had to pull the trigger on what I thought was best for me in my area and the at pro won out (with accessories and price). Also, I don't have tv and have never heard of the tv show.

Whadifind: I'll get a pic and post it. I gave it back to my friend already but he's sending me one.

Hopefully I'll have a lot more to post soon! Happy hunting. And thanks for the friendly welcome. Sure it wasn't a cache of never before seen goodies but it was fun!

Welcome Jd. Your gonna love the sport and love the people here. That car is awesome. Good luck with the new machine and can't wait to see more posts from you.

Here's the detector. It's a RS 63-3015 which I seem to recall being a rebranded Bounty Hunter Tracker IV.
