Nice find Coiltekjohn but I am not sure it is a buckle and the "CS" kind of looks like "DS"?

I also noticed this was your very first post - so, Welcome Aboard Coiltekjohn! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forums: Select Your Area.... and selecting location information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country). You might also consider adding your state (or country) to your displayed profile (SETTINGS -> EDIT PROFILE) so if you ask a question, etc. - people may have more success helping you (if necessary)...

I hate to be a "Debbie Downer," but that is not a Confederate buckle - in my opinion. :skullflag:

Please show us a non-dug example of this type of buckle. I am unfamiliar with this design. It almost looks like a "tractor part".

I applaud your enthusiasm sir!

Best of luck to you.

Coiltek, I believe what you have there is a wall-washer. Many were shaped like stars. They were used on the outside of brick to hold a bolt that went all the way through the brick and secured a wood band-board or joist to the structure. Just my guess.

Here is an example of what one might look like on the outside:

I think Phishfinder is correct. I have never seen a Confederate buckle with a cast in set of letters on the back.

Sorry, not a belt buckle. None were made of steel or iron during the CW. I also do not think the marks are "CS". I think machinery part also.

I would advise a book such as "CONFEDERATE BELT BUCKLES & PLATES" by Steve E. Mullinax. There were Iron C.S. plates and I was fortunate enough to find one. From what I've gathered, the one I found is the only variety of Iron marked C.S. plates made during the Civil War. I have seen another iron sword belt plate that they think is most likely Confederate, but it's still not 100% verifiable. Hope this helps and good luck on your quest. It's an addiction that has no cure.:)

Hmm you fellas could be right but I will post another pic after i use the electrolysis on it. I thought it said CS but my eyes aren't as good as the old days gone by. Maybe its a Confederate Tractor part. If so I will melt it down to the rest of my failures.
