My first Class Ring Today

It always seemed like a lot of people find class rings, so I figured it would be my turn soon. Sure enough I found this one today at the park down the street from me. I always thought it would be fun to locate the owner and return a class ring. But I think with the class 32 for this one it's probably hopeless. That brings up an interesting thought though, anybody find any real old class rings?

On the Washington Park alumni page, the oldest graduate that had their name on the alumni list was from 1939. There are 2400 students there now. It would be interesting to find out how big the graduating class was in 1932. If it is quite a few, it would be a pretty daunting task if there are no initials on the ring. But if you can find a contact in that area, they might be able to check for school annuals for that year. I would think the chances of the original owner still being alive are between 5-10%. Good Luck.

One other possibility. Is there a company name marking inside? If so and they're still in business they might be able to give info as to the person's address or at least the location of the school.

It does have the persons initials inscribed and there is a company logo. It's an S with an arrow through it. I think I'll take the advice of dfxdude and onionhead and try to contact someone on the alumni committee and put a post on the class ring finder site. Thank you all for the good suggestions. I'll let you know if anything happens.

Hey CJ... that is one beautiful ring. Your last two hunts have been great! First the V nickel then the that beautiful ring... Keep it up!

Beautiful ring and an old one to boot! If the school is still in existence you can usually call the school library and have someone look up the class of 32 in an Annual and, assuming you have the persons initials inside the ring, determine the owner. I do try to return class rings myself when possible because I know the sentimental value attached to them. Good luck! Jim Cal

That is one pretty ring! Very nice find. I wouldn't give up on finding an owner for it. Work all the angles mentioned here by everyone. I'm sure with some effort (probably a considerable amount of effort) you can find the school and perhaps an owner. Good luck and keep us posted as to what you decide to do or find out.

Hey Caratjuice,

I did a search on the USGS map server for "Washington Park" for the whole U.S. and got 8 hits that are schools. Three are elementary, the other five are just "Washington Park School". Funny thing, nothing returned when I searched on "Washington Park High School", not even the one in Wisconsin.

Washington Park School CO Denver
Washington Park School MO St. Louis
Washington Park School NC Scotland
Washington Park School OH Cuyahoga
Washington Park School (historical) VA Richmond

Washington Park Elementary School GA Jasper
Washington Park Elementary School NJ Passaic
Washington Park Elementary School OH Hamilton

Hope this helps,

Kent

hello kent, thanks for checking that for me. But I think dfxdude hit the nail on the head in his earlier post. The Washington Park High School in Racine Wisconsin started in 1929 and that would coincide with the date on the ring. The original owner must have been in the original class. A Google search will bring up Washington Park High School in the first result shown. Another good clue was the lighthouse on the ring, which dfxdude says is a famous landmark in Racine. Looks like this ring traveled a long way from home.
