I have hammered this former colonial home site for years. Plenty of flat buttons, some colonial buckles, a coin silver spoon, lots of 1800s coins and relics, but not a single 18th century coin... until now! :hello2: This beautiful 1781 Mexican Half Real was 6-8” down and seemed as tiny and thin as could be! :icon_thumright: I thought I had found a ‘Trime’ at first, only this turned out to be so much better!

Not to be outdone, a very nice 1851 Large Cent came out of hiding from beneath a tree root. After some soap and water, and very light tooth brushing, I kept in my hand and rubbed the natural oils from my hand into it. This seems to work very well on cents that are dry and somewhat pitted. Hot hydrogen peroxide would have ruined this one I think.
Thanks for looking! 6E54F3F4-81B8-4E76-B0C4-653E91F85896.jpegE328BAE1-089C-461D-8C36-F06B9A50FA84.jpeg03E080EF-3714-4484-B5C4-D56982FCE325.jpegBBFB9357-1EE3-470E-92F9-F2942BB2DE3E.jpeg131C0A8A-5899-410B-82AE-786B8804DB6E.jpeg377CF37A-0BED-44C4-8476-FF1664229433.jpeg98EFE0CC-D167-4468-944C-50E59DB6274A.jpegDE93EFBF-DA2F-44CF-B173-F569A5AC317B.jpeg0E899F78-5F69-4597-9436-C16C1D70D992.jpeg

Thanks, TomW244! I found a twin to that 1851 in nearly the same condition about 50 feet away several years ago.

Thanks, Aureus! It was a very good day for me!

You know I have to say that reale is amazing and awesome I would be so happy to find that, but you will probably never find a large cent in better condition that that! I'm saying they are equally great! Commendable!

Nice condition on those coins...congrats !!

Wow those are some beauties:icon_thumleft:

Saving history , gotta admire those coins my dude. Congrats!

40+ years of digging, and the only thing left on my bucket list is Spanish Silver. Congratulations on your find. Jealous in New York!:occasion14::notworthy:

Great looking large cent , I've never dug one that was not toast . your soil is very kind to the copper.

Thanks, Blak bart! These were the only 2 coins found on this hunt, other than a clad quarter, but I got quality this time vs. quantity!

Wow those are some beauties:icon_thumleft:
Thanks BLK HOLE! They don't make coins like they used to!

Saving history , gotta admire those coins my dude. Congrats!
Thanks, whistler84! Speaking of history, I have the land records, census and genealogy down so tight on this property that I can almost be certain who possessed these coins before dropping them! 8-)

:occasion14: Back at ya, digging440yrs! PS: have you really been digging for 440 years? :laughing7:

Thanks, Terry Soloman! I've been at it for 20 and I never expected Spanish Silver to shine my way! I know how fortunate I am and I wish the same for everyone here!

Thanks, ticndig! This was from some topsoil in a relatively undisturbed part of my yard. The topsoil there is relatively dry with sand deeper down.

Wow nice reale and that LC is beautiful! Congrats! :icon_thumright:

Thanks a bunch, Whyme! Now I'm thinking there's got to be more 1700s silver around here! I've been lucky and can't complain about my 1800s coins finds.

That might be the best looking LC I have seen posted. I am very happy if I can get most of a date. Yours is really well preserved. Congrats on both coins. It's inspiring to see your persistence in hunting the area paid off so well.

Congrats on your first Spanish and the beautiful LC as well
