After that first bucket load of Snipe-ing paydirt that I loaded a week ago, I made a list of things that I would like to find as I screened the ugly, smelly contents of the coin operated auto vacs. This list included: GOLD, SILVER, DIAMONDS, PRE-1965 SILVER COINS, WHEATIES and a bunch of CLAD COINS. As of today, I have checked each of these items off that list. All in one week. I absolutely love Snipe-ing. It has given me the thrill of the hunt on my back porch. Yes, I still love metal detecting, but this is the spice one looks for to heat things up a bit. Check out the photos below to see what Snipe-ing brought to the coffers! Hope you consider trying this. Thanks for looking.

I think you are simultaneously killing your new hobby while trying to promote it... before you know it, word will hit the streets about the thecolonel...all the vac's will be on lockdown and next think ya know there's a reality show on A&E where they're auctioning off the contents of 10gal, 20gal, 50gal vacuum screens (after cutting the lock off of course) and at first you buy em' for $1-$2 then BAM!... just over your shoulder...

Ha ha. Ad long as they have fun with it. I get people asking me why I am sharing this "secret". Well for one thing its not a secret. And the other thing, there is plenty to go around. I hope everyone tries it at leadt once. Shut em down? Auction the contents off? Not sure the corporate shops would waste resources for pennies. Mom and pop shops are locking them up for years in hopes for some extrareturn. These vacs cost $2500. and up. You can't blame them.

There's a slight possibility that I was joking...

I wasn't sure if I wanted to try it when I first saw this but I drove up to my towns only car wash on a whim last night and they are all unlocked! Now I can't wait to get my first bucket full. There are four of them up there. Thanks for sharing this ideal whether its new or not. I know that I would have never thought of it. Hope your luck continues! HH

PS: I work in the oilfield and my company requires us to wear cut resistant gloves. They are nitrile coated and they are pretty cheap at Lowes or Home Depot. At the same time they are very thin so you can still have a feel for what you are doing. I know I'm gonna use mine just incase.

I was also gonna ask you if you have tallied a rough clad per bucketful amount yet. That would be some cool info to compare IMHO.

WIT..I see what happened here. I replied to you from my phone. There was no photo shown. With the photo, I get the joke. Sorry about mistaking as anything less. Tom

No worries at all, Tom 8-)

I hit the local car wash today and asked the manager if i could clean out the vacuums for the change in them. He was thrilled to have me do it. It is dirty and dusty but i got $10.04 and a small sterling pendant from 4 vacuums. Also found used condom, lot of pills, pot roaches {no i didn't smoke them}, lots of broken window glass, thousands of cigarette butts and other undesirable things. USE GLOVES and a dustmask. I took a brush and dustpan and cleaned up around the vacuums after i finished. Cool way to find treasure if you don't have a weak stomach. About an hour total work. steve

Okay so I got rained out of detecting today and curiosity got the best of me so I pulled up to a service station vacuum on the way home and dumped the contents of the screen into a bucket... it was very dirty of course but one look into the pile and I thought screw it, I'm not digging around in there... I grabbed my pinpointer from my bag and searched the pile :laughing7:.. I found a quarter.... As far as asking? PFFFT... never gonna happen. It takes like 2 seconds and who's going to care?

Ha ha..
Then you definately don't want to hear about the toe nail clippings!

I've been doing this at car washes off & on for the past 15 years but rarely talk about it. Now the word is out, I guess your right WIT. This part of treasure hunting is now doomed to a reality show. like Storage Wars and dare I say? American Digger?.
Oh Well. So it Goes.:BangHead: Ok I'm Only joking, I have been doing this though since reading about it in a Treasure Hunters Manual by Karl Von Mueller a few years back. It is nasty but it's still treasure hunting. Always check the surroundings as well, I've found coins and jewelry just laying on the pavement around the vacuum cleaners before as well. Go For It!:icon_thumright:
