I found this beautiful Piece of History Along with most of the skeleton of a Equus Giganteus, "Largest horse on fossil record". I donated the Partial skeleton To the Grinnelle Iowa college. I, however, kept this piece along with several others for my collection. I believe that it is a Hand held maul That I find special Because of a

snake totem Carved into the reverse. I believe that it might be bone as well.
Hope you enjoy My Discoveries and any comments are great. I could be wrong on what it is So I welcome anyone's thoughts, thank you.

I'm not really sure why the one stone has a cross on it, but it was found in the same Site as everything else. I would love to hear some opinions about that Because I have no idea.

Forgot to put something for scale. The first little figure Is about 2 inches by 2 inches? The next 2 or bounce 8 inches by 6 inches As well as a snake

All of the objects were found
About 2 feet under the water And Sand in a large Creek With the fossil Bones that I found. Nowhere near a field. They have already been checked out and identified as worked Stone and not plow marks. I spent a whole summer in my chest Waitress in that Creek Digging all of it up. That was a great summer. My hands hurt something bad, but it was absolutely fun.

Those stones are not worked, just rocks. Who ever checked them out is mistaken. The fossils are great, not related to the stones in anyway.

I respect And welcome everyone's Opinion, Whether they are. right or wrong. I can't assure you that
The archeologist that held them in his hand And examined them, made a correct Decision when Informing me that they are indeed worked stones. Going off of photographs I'm sure it is sometimes hard to make a correct Decision On the subject Of worked or not worked Stone.

The archeologist that held them in his hand And examined them, made a correct Decision when Informing me that they are indeed worked stones. Going off of photographs I'm sure it is sometimes hard to make a correct Decision On the subject Of worked or not worked Stone.

Those rocks show zero pecking, grinding, or wear use. What would their use as a tool be? Google pictures of stone axes, mauls, adzes, pestles, hammerstones etc. and the made made factors leaps out plain as day.

They may not be plow scars, but they certainly do resemble implement strikes. They are much fresher than the surface of the stone. They lack the patina that the rest of the stone displays, so therefore they are fresher than the stone’s surface. Otherwise, does not resemble any tool, and seems to be simply a rock.

The archaeologist is clearly mistaken, but who can say why. I have seen archaeologists humor people. It’s not right, but some just don’t like to disappoint people. Whatever the reason, the archaeologist was wrong, they are all rocks, not artifacts. If posted to the Native American artifact forum, that would be the conclusion from collectors with hundreds of years collective experience. Further, most would interpret the lighter scrapes as implement strikes. None would conclude any of the rocks were worked. Nor would better photos be required to conclude they were not artifacts….

Just a thought, if the waterway where they were found is large enough for a motorboat, could the marks be from propellers?
