My Fathers "Cabin"

I've been reading and watching this forum for around a month now, participating to the best of my abilities and knowledge, However. I haven't posted any of my finds what so ever. This is mainly because I haven't been out to find anything. However recently I was home in WV on leave and did manage to find a few things before my Tesoro went crazy(it has a short).
Almost a year ago my Father purchased this log home built around 1845(possibly rebuilt in this location later) in hopes of restoring it and using it as a weekend home for our family....We've got a long road to go before that happens.
Well in the pictures below starting with the first being the "cabin" and the others some of my finds. The "screw driver" looking object I was told by my Grand Father is actually a valve stem tool for an old automobile. The "ring" looking object is anyones guess, a few of us figure its a "cup handle" possibly. I threw the only coin I found in the picture for size its a 1952 Rosie Dime. Anyways thanks for looking.

Well the stories were getting is that the "old timer" that lived there before(he lived there all his life) up until last summer when he passed had a habit of burying lots of stuff even food
he would put dry beans, rice, oats, and who knows what in PVC pipe containers that he made. so who knows what else he buried. Very well could be his life savings! He lived up until the day he died with only one spigot for cold water in the kitchen, and an out house. A true "old timer" Only time and some good hours of hunting will tell whats in this yard.

Thanks for all the comments everyone. -JD in WV

Re: My Fathers "Cabin"

well neat finds already and im sure theres plenty more to go there keep us posted .

Also i would like to thank you and all young people serving in the military today .
and may god protect all of you .

Re: My Fathers "Cabin"

Thank you for your service to your country and good luck with the detecting. I think Tesoro has a good warranty and they should be able to fix it. The ring like thingy is off of a hand lamp I've been told. Probably held a candle. I found one several years ago and I've found the tool thing a couple times.

Re: My Fathers "Cabin"

Looks like a great place to hunt. I would hunt in all metal and dig every signal. Cover the area from several different directions to make sure that you got it all. It will be a very nice cabin when you and your father are done restoring it. It would be nice to have a shadow box of the finds of the property to sit above the fireplace.

Stay safe out there and thank you for your service to your country. We are praying for a safe return for you and the others serving in our armed forces.

Re: My Fathers "Cabin"

Nice!!! The round "cup handle" actually looks like the handle from a finger candle lamp.....

Re: My Fathers "Cabin"

JD - thanks for the pics, that cabin is the place of my dreams.......I've always had a strange fascination with abandoned houses and/or outbuildings, probably why I'm here! My wife will tell you any drive in the country with me at the wheel is a crapshoot at best, since my 'ole eyes tend to wander just a little bit..... :o

I'll add my sentiments to the others regarding your service to our country -- son in law is in the Army, I know what a strain it is for you and your family and I'm happy you got a break -- my son in law just got in last Wednesday for 30 days R&R from S. Korea himself ;D.....in a nutshell, "thanks" certainly is not enough, and the Captain & Admiral sincerely salute you!

Stay safe and know that our prayers are with you..........and we're looking forward to seeing the secrets this place is waiting to give up!

HH,

Steve & Peggy
