My daughter just sent me tis photo of a rock

She and a friend are on an early morning kayak trip. They stopped on a sandbar in the river where she found this rock thing.
She is wondering what it is and what type of stone it is?
Any thoughts?

They are in southwest Virginia floating the New River.

It looks wet. I think it's naturally shaped from river tumbling. Looks like metamorphosed basalt ( because of the zeolite-like inclusions.) Not obsidian, not anthracite, not jet. IMO.
