My coin collection (Go easy on me, I'm only 15)

I've ammassed this collection over the past five years, and it is something I am very proud of. I really enjoy looking at the many impressive collections and finds posted here on Tnet and I hope one day my collection will match the prowess of some of your hoards. The coin pictured below is the pride of my collection, my Athenian Tetradrachm. I purchased it at a convention about 4 years ago for 200 dollars (SCORE!) and I just got around to getting it certified.... IT'S AUTHENTIC! Below I will post some of the other highlights of my collection, I hope that you guys enjoy viewing it as much as I enjoyed viewing yours.

These are an 1883-CC Morgan dollar in MS-64 DMPL grade and a 1928 St. Gaudens double eagle.

Great start, hope you stay with it... wish I had that interest when I was 15.

Re: My coin collection (Go easy on me, I'm only 15)

EDIT - Thanks kybowhunter, you would be surprised how much I hear that, I mean about that whole, if had known when I was little that my mickey mantle card blah blah blah you know the story! That's why I'm starting to hoard my junk at a young age.

This is a Romanus III byzantine solidus and a really horrible picture of an otherwise purty 1854 large O seated quarter that I found in my front yard. (My neighborhood was built in the 1930-40's and I can't find any old maps of my neighborhood, any ideas on how it got there?)

Re: My coin collection (Go easy on me, I'm only 15)

Thanks HappyPointRed! Happy Hunting! --- Lol.... I just can't get tired of saying that.

These are the last two I'm going to post, the first one is my indian, that is, 1915 10 dollar gold indian. The other is one of my other favorites, it's my atocha coin! Got it at
key west last summer.... I'll post more of my junk if I get an overwhelming reply (unlikely) I still have my 2 gold 5 dollars, Gold 2.50, Gold 1 dollar, my half complete type set that I'm too lazy to take pictures of, and way to much else to list. I hope you've enjoyed my collection! I'll be checking back daily for replies....

P.S. Does anyone think I should post my 1854 Large-O quarter and this silver medal thingy I found in the best finds forum? Well anyway, thanks for looking and HH!

A great collection in the works there. Nice, high-quality coins both ancient and modern. Bravo! You get bonus points for the Tetradrachm--Those Athenian "Owls" are one of my favorite coins.

Re: My coin collection (Go easy on me, I'm only 15)

Wow, very nice coins! I couldn't have raked that many yards or packed enough groceries in my day to buy coins that nice!

Re: My coin collection (Go easy on me, I'm only 15)

Well, due to popular demand, I've decided to post a bit more of my cr- I mean wonderful collectibles....

First up is this 1854 gold dollar and 1908 liberty head half eagle I bought both at a local coin shop as au 58 examples, but if you ask most people they grade around ms-62.... I had other coin shop people look at them.

Next, the great pile of junk that serves as my back up silver, just in case of that market crash ;) Also pictured below is a constans II Gold solidus, ICG graded MS-62, but it's closer to a 63. That is, if you think ancient coins are gradeable.

Re: My coin collection (Go easy on me, I'm only 15)

Next up is a denarius of caracalla, and a wierd medal thingy I dug up in my back yard under a big root (once again, my house was built in 1938) I did some research and found that it is from a new york statewide essay competition for high school students. The students had to write an essay about Romeo and Juliet and there was a gold, silver, and bronze medal. The gold medal is still with the family of it's winner, and the bronze medal recently sold for over 800 dollars! So.... [SCORE!] NEXT STOP, BEST FINDS FORUM! ;D

Re: My coin collection (Go easy on me, I'm only 15)

The last thing I will show you guys for now are neither finds, nor coins, but I still thought they were worthy of mention. The two lithographs pictured below are from giovanni belzoni's (famous egyptologist, father of modern egyptology) 1820 first edition history of egypt, the first book about the history of egypt published since 200 A.D. anyway, funny story about that. I knew that I had something there, being an aspiring egyptologist, and there was this other guy there who was interested in them, so I started talking about how ugly they were to anyone I could find, and he actually got discouraged and ran off! Of course, as soon as he was out of the picture I snatched up the prints and bought 'em for 10 bucks each, I had them authenticated and in prominent art galleries in new york city they are selling for 1,500 - 2,500, EACH! Truly one of my best "finds" ever.

P.S. Thanks to everyone for all the compliments! I really appreciate it! You have no idea how encouraging it is considering I was hesitant to post my stuff at all.

Thanks a lot,

Ted
