Hi All,
Went back to the old millsite where I had found a 1600s buckle & quartz point, I lived on the millpond before I started Md'ing. If only I had known :laughing7:
Began the search on the beach away from the wall, eyeballed the Doughboy with his gas equipment right away, he lost his articulating arm somewhere...
Found the lead cover to an early Ford 6 Volt battery.
Next I get a screaming signal out in knee deep water, pull out a pristine sterling butterknife handle :hello2: carbon steel or iron blade long gone.
since I have things in my pockets that would scratch it, I bring it over for Laurie to hold, (she is gathering mussels for dinner), we both comment on how heavy it is,
assuming it is all sand and mud inside.
next signal is the Sterling 'S.G Eaton' :dontknow: plate, first thing that comes to mind is the nameplate from a flatware box,,, are other pieces out deeper in the mud?
Next months negative tides will tell..
Then another silver piece, a stamped tag, after I look closely at home, it was a larger decorated piece before 'WC Cogan' put his stamps on it.
I can read 'NCWCHC' along the top, 881 (1881?) left center, and USA on bottom.
along with border deco & central filigree
The top letters are barely visible, the numbers and USA at the edge show that the piece was larger at one time.
Super interesting finds to me, I will be asking about the name and the tag at the Historical society when I can get back there. (I have an idea what part of the alphabet soup might mean) and at a total of 49 grams, (handle itself is 38!) my biggest silver haul yet :hello2:
Lastly I got a rather odd key, 'Slaymaker Mfr/Lancaster P USA'
and a bent and beat copper of 28 mm, I can only see 'CONNEC' which gives me my first Connecticut Copper!!
This was recovered from the rocky area pictured, no wonder it's beat :'(
Great Hunt! and the mussels were fantastic too
thanks for looking! HH to All
