Haven't had many opportunities to hunt these past few weeks. Between family and the honey-do list (which continues to grow), my hunting time has diminished. The time I have had has been producing clad but no keepers, either in coins, jewelry or relics. Yesterday broke the slump.........

I don't have many V nickel finds......the ones I have are not very good. This one, however has some nice detail. The only cleaning has been a 12 hour soak in a 50/50 solution of water and blue Dawn dish detergent. I'm very hesitant to do much more to it until I have a very good method of cleaning and I could use some help in that regard.

The ring has an "R" hallmark on the extreme left and darned if I can find any definitive reference to it. One site says it's a makers mark......another says it's a reference to the year of manufacture........again, I could use some assistance from all you knowledgeable treasure experts.

Thanks for lookin' in and good luck to all on your hunts.........

Congrats that's definitely a nice looking one certainly better than most of the ones I've managed to find

Congrats on a very nice looking V Nickel. I'm sure everyone on the forum has their own method, and I know some will disagree with me, but I clean mine as you have done, then soak them in Virgin Olive Oil for a week. This will bring the detail out a little more, and I have had great success with this method. I use the Olive Oil on all of my old Nickels and coppers. I then dry them off very well, then put them into my 2x2 cardboard coin holders, and into the book they go.

Hi, nice finds. Congrats:icon_thumleft:

Nice old V and a cool ring recovery! :occasion14:

Thanks, joe. The ones I have found are roached. Takes quite a bit of study to see much that is recognizable.

Thanks for the tip, Trezurehunter. I haven't had much luck with olive oil on wheats and the V nickel is 75% copper. If I'm fortunate enough to find another one that is in poor condition, I'll try your method. I've also read that heating the olive oil is helpful. Any thoughts on that?

Very nice V and I appreciate the tips being shared as well. Congrats! :occasion14:

I love V nickels and I’m glad V nickels love me. They are the coin I’ve found the most probably 5x’s more then Buffalos and I can’t understand why. I guess Victory is mine as well as yours. Congratulations

Glad you found time to get out! Good luck on cleaning v nickels, all that happens to mine is I end up changing the patina!

I'm glad you broke the slump. I've only found one V nick in the same shape as yours. Most of the ones I find are black and toasted. That's a nice ring for sure. Keep it coming!

Congrats. The nickel is nice really good shape. Nice ring also.:occasion14:

sweet V nickle, mine is a while lot worse than that one

Cant give an opinion. I have never heated the olive oil. I just dump enough to cover the coin, into a plastic cup and let 'er sit.
