Well folks, I finally found my virgin colonial site. It's a farm in Western Ma, next door to the one where I found the axe head cache. 200+ acres of colonial farm fields, pastures, river, and buildings. The house on the property was built in 1846, but must have had other, much older homes before. I hunted one small pasture for about 2 hours this weekend and found three coins, the newest was the 1805 Half Cent, the oldest was a 17*5 George II (not pictured, it was folded and half and I whaled it with the shovel real bad). My favorite is the 1797 Draped Bust! Every few feet I found Gilt buttons, flat buttons, pieces of clay pipes, parts or tools, horse tack, and other cool stuff. The two non-colonial period items I found were pretty cool too. The 1914 motor cycle permit, and the International Harvester Key fob were in the same pasture. I can't wait to get back to the site!

Any advice on how to get the detail to show on the coins without ruining any value?

No doubt you found a great spot!grats are in order!

Nice spot! No telling what will come out of there, but it will probably be good!

Way to go dude!!!!!! Those coppers probably won't get any better,I'd leave them. Gilt buttons clean up rather well with Naval Jelly, that is if there is any gilt left,it'll show nice. God Bless Chris

Real nice. You can also use lemon juice.

Definitely a hot spot - nice saves!

After a little tooth-picking, the large cent looks more like a 1798, not a 1797. The details are starting to show a bit better on the half cent too. I will post new picks if they clean up enough to make it worth it.

Great finds and as er'body else said...Can't wait to see what pops up next......Silver....:hello2:......HH

Exellent finds, love the cycle permit It's on my wish list cause I ride a cycle myself.Happy hunting.:icon_thumleft:

cool finds. love that motorcycle license

I was able to get some more corrosion off of the half cent. It's an 1809, Classic Head. The motorcycle permit cleaned up nicely, as did the international harvester key fob. I found out a little about the motorcycle tag as well. MA issued that style tag from 1911-1914, and it appears as though they are pretty highly collectable. I don't know what the value of mine would be, but one in much nicer shape went for over $300 on eBay. I think it'll make a nice display piece.

You should have it restored
