That's a superb point JB, I see why it's your favourite. I'd hate to say it was a Gary & be incorrect because there are a few points similar to that, the material fascinates me too,its beautiful. Looks like a quartzite.
I'll be interested to see what Cannonman says, that's his state.

Definetly a G10. Congrats on your find.

Molly. :)

Very nice and classic Waubesa. It wants me!

Thanks for clearing that up Matt, I wasn't sure, but now I know.

Great point JB, good luck hunting. :)

I believe the word we are all searching for is "exquisite".

Simply beautiful. Just imagine the guy who made that, he's done knapping and he looks at this gorgeous piece shimmering in his rough hand. In an impulsive moment he decides it's far too nice to break hunting so he buries it under a cottonwood tree so he can give it to his sweetheart two villages over after he wins her fathers approval but then tragedy strikes and he gets struck by lightning a week later.
Tragic and pretty. Bittersweet find.

Now that's just sweet Johnny, Bravo on the find.

Thanks for the replies. I do find a good bit of worked quartzite and tons of flake, live in a good area of the state for it. Interesting enough for the amount of quartzite I find, the better part of the worked pieces I find are chert or the similar. I live in sand country and theres no chert at all in this area, mostly sandstone and hard rock along the river. Here's a picture of just a few of the quartzite cores that I have found, think I may have a quartzite hammer ???, but not too sure where I put it.

WOW! I just now caught this thread and that's a dandy for sure! It's a Waubesa and perfectly shaped- made of Hixton, truly a Wisconsin artifact classic. By the way you describe your area you must live pretty close to me! I live in "sand country" as well. I have lots of these Waubesa points, these and the madison triangulars are the most common.
