After the war, I am sure many people decided to get away from their old lives and forget the past. Wtg on the saves!

Nice finds! I hate to be the bearer of bad news but that's not a Civil War button. It's a great seal button WW1-WW2. You can look up the backmark to find out a more exact range. Still a cool find though!

Can someone show me what the older ones look like? All the info I can find points to 1860-65'.

Here is a Civil War general issue eagle button. The great seal design that you found wasn't introduced until 1902.

Gotcha, I appreciate it. It's nuts, it has the shield of the 1902- current, but has no stars on the back. It's just got the little dots around the center... Leave it up to me to find some kind of "accident" button! What could possibly be the cause of that? This is part of the reason for the confusion on my end. Thank you guys for the help!

Yea, but that is still a cool button. I have found several here in West Texas from the Mexican Revolution days. Nice silver as well. Way to go.
