I went metal detecting all weekend on a swimming beach on Lake Allatoona northwest of Atlanta. The water levels were waaaay down. Also, A lot of the beach sand had been washed into the lake due to heavy rain. My first find was a 1940 silver quarter. Then I found a civil war bullet, a gold ring and 3 silver dimes. I didn't realize it at the time because the dime was dirty, but one was a 1945 winged liberty dime. I also found 16 clad quarters, 15 clad dimes, 3 nickles and 41 pennies. This was the best day of my metal detecting career in 11 years!

The next day I went to a different swimming beach on the same lake and then back to the same one. I found 12 quarters, 11 dimes, 4 nickles, and 16 pennies. Three of the dimes were silver, one was a 1939 winged liberty dime. Two of the pennies were wheats. I found a silver earring, a zippo lighter, some type of token, a cross, a bullet (civil war?) and a bracelet charm.

This was by far my best weekend ever. Pics below.

WOW!! Great finds!!! Love that silver, especially the mercury dimes. WTG!! HH

We should call this the ringding weekend when you have finds like this. Congrats on your finds. HH Burdie

Shootist, I heard that the Corps made a mistake in releasing too much water from the lake. Then I heard another guy say that they did it on purpose before winter rains so who knows (he probably worked for the Corps of Engineers, lol). You would think that they would wait until after a major holiday to do it because of all the boaters and swimmers. At the first beach, all finds were within 4 inches of the surface because there was little if any sand with red clay base. At the second beach they had just brought in a fresh load of sand so I had to dig 8 inches for most of those signals. Two people looked at the first bullet and said that it was civil war. Does anyone know if the second bullet is civil war? It has a dent on the unseen side so it was probably fired.

Very nice assortment of finds and all those keepers, congrats.
Keep up the great work and best of luck to you!

Is the gold ring a diamond ring too? It looks like it has gemstones.

Smiles!

It is missing the large central stone, but it has two relatively large eye shaped stones on the sides of that.

I believe if you send the ZIPPO lighter to ZIPPO they will replace it if they can't fix it. I know of guys whom send them obviously unrepairable ZIPPO lighters they dig and they get brand new ones. It's kind of a company policy....

Here is the pic of one side of the zippo.

The brand looks like ZippO. It has XIV on the bottom with BRADFORD PA. And then MADE IN USA.

The design is hard to see but I am looking at it right now and it looks like a snake with palm leaves in the background.

that would be 1998 .

The Letter to the Left Designates Month A - January. B - Feb., Etc.
