My apologies to the beach detecting community

Ladies and gentleman ... As a new comer to your hobby I'd like to take a minute and formally apologize for the senseless manner that I've strewn pop tops and bottle caps on various east coast beaches in my 52 years on this earth. I'm in the process of picking them all back up and disposing of them properly - starting on Whalehead Beach in Corolla NC. I hope you'll all forgive me.

With aluminum prices rising, like everything else, I wonder if anyone has tried to cash in on all of those pull tabs and bottlecaps yet? Can't they be recycled? Is it even worth making a trip to a recycling plant to cash them in? Let's suppose I had ten garbage bags full of aluminum cans and pulltabs? I seem to remember, back in the 1970's, people collecting aluminum cans and recycling them. Hmmmmmmmmmmm. Ok, it's late and I'm tired. lol

aluminum cans are definitely worth cashing in...provided you can get enough of them and you live in a place that has the deposits. My neighbor works as a janitor. He takes all the aluminum cans from the kids at school, and puts then into bags of 200. then, once a month, he drives across the border into massachusetts and cashes them all in for .04 a peice. He usually pulls in about $150 to $200 per trip.

I finally got around to reading this thread. I too have littered a few beaches in my younger days before I started diving and detecting. I must have picked up a couple tons of the metal trash by now even from beaches I had never been on before.

Thanks for the reply, Spez. Sounds like I'd need a pickup or van to make it worthwhile. So, I probably won't pursue it. But aluminum prices have gone up 50% over the past year, if anyone wants to try it. Might be worth .06 a can by now and $200-300 per trip. Makes me wish I had a pickup or a van.
