Thanks Old Salty, kw4, Papa Bear, and Dman! And thanks to you Josh. Lookin' forward to DIV. Finding the ring as quickly as I did had to be more than mere luck. Perhaps Divine Providence? Who knows? I do know this - the area that was shown me was roughly 60 x 50 and I found the ring after about 10 steps in a straight line on the edge of the area pointed out to me. Had I been off 1 foot either way, I'd have missed it.
