Hello all!,

It was about forty degrees here in CT when i got out of work today at 5pm so i decided to go down to my local elementary school and detect for an hour or so...well, i didn't find anything to write home about i did get much better at targeting and only had to abandon one hole!..I'm also getting better at digging neater plugs and calling out coins with my 705...i got really excited when i dug up that shiney clamp as i thought it was silver! Lol..one day..thanks all for reading!

When Just Starting OUt NGU

Hi there Tmac & neuseman,

When I first started detecting I was building my own detector, coil and all from "How To" articles in electronics magazines. I found metal! Beer bottle lids, tin foil, aluminum foil, first type of pull tabs, nails, brass water sprinkler heads and 'such'. I found similar items when I purchased my White's 6000 D using the "turn on and go" settings, then I learned how to use it and there was no looking back. What I am getting at is when all of us started we were finding the things your are finding and it is that experience everyone has to go through to learn what their machines are telling them. Keep at it, keep trying as one day the light bulb will go on and you will "get it".

One morning early I was out with my super tuned 6000 D and noticed the sidewalk had been torn up for about 40' in front of the Chamber of Commerce in downtown Redwood City CA. The magazines all said hit the torn up sidewalks, so I did. Pop bottle/beer bottle caps, nails, foil, and every other metal known to mankind But I knew what they were before I pulled them out of the ground. So, and here is the traditional statement, I was headed back to my bicycle when I got this signal that almost blew my ears out. I thought what kind of bottle cap did I find this time, I looked at the ground and could see the circle in the dirt, I bent down and pushed on one edge of the bottle cap and up rolls the other edge of my first gold ring! That did it for me and in one way or another I've been detecting ever since. All my best wishes to you both for a totally surprise first super find, it is coming!.................63bkpkr

198_9857.JPG My first Gold Ring is on the right, the 2nd gold ring (what is left of it) is on the left. The 2nd ring was in bad shape from a lawn mower hit so I've been cutting hunks out of it to glue to plastic poker chips to use as targets when I'm out in the field. Yes, I could use lead shot but hey, I've got the real thing so why not use it, so kick me I'm a purist. :icon_thumleft: Have fun and remember Never Give Up or NGU!...........63bkpkr

Are you a climber? I saw the 5.11 hat and thought climber!?

Yes, 5.11 makes tactical gear. Note the brim says 2012. It was being sold at a major firearms show in Vegas and was signed by the Sniper Hero that was recently murdered. I used the hat in the picture as I needed a dark background and the 5.11 logo added some nice color.

I do own and have used a full climbing rig where I hike/explore/nose around/see stuff/have found neat places due to using the gear. A rope is a highway to a location most people never see or can get to. The full rig adds another 30 lbs to my pack so I do not carry it around very often as it makes this little boy understand he's carried in way to much stuff and it must go out with me as well...............63bkpkr

NFAR 2001 Herb & Karl 7.JPG NFAR 2001 Herb & Karl 8.JPG NFAR 2001 Herb & Karl 6.JPG I've roped into this location with the 200' waterfall at the back end of the box canyon. There are about six pools loaded with native Rainbow's, in the picture I've caught one of the smaller ones and released it. This was in 2001.
