MXT vs's M-6 vs's XLT?????????????????

I do not Gold hunt, as in prospecting, that said...I am interested in which machine people think is the best Coin Shooter, in average soil, with a very seldom trip to Galveston Beach threw in...I currently have an Ace 250 with sniper coil, and a Garrett 1350, also a BH Land Star...I use the Ace the most.. 99 percent of the time......My question is what are the primary differences between the 3 Whites detectors..I have read their literature, but would like to hear from owners of the above units....I am pleased with my Ace, but would like a bit more depth.....Thoughts, and suggestions...I do know I really like the small coil...Do the Whites models above perform good with Small coils, or will I not get any depth over the Ace?? Coils being equal) Am open to other ideas...Is Whites new technology??? Thanks in advance for any advice on this subject....Tom Shaw

Oh yes ease of operation is important to me..I want a turn on, and go unit..Think that is why I like the Ace so much..Thanks again....

These units can also be turn on and go as they have preset programs. However by ground balancing you will get a lot more depth than the lil Ace which has a preset GB. This is fine if your ground is mild but if you hit the wrong spot you will be lucky to get 2 inches.

The XLT is the more versatile of these and has many different settings to adjust if you decide to mess around. All have sniper coils available for them and they are very good with them for coin shooting. I think once you start using the XLT you will put the Ace in the closet.

Good Luck,

The MXT offers a prospecting and relic mode which you indicated that you did not need, so why pay extra? The M6 is a perfect coin shooter and very simple to operate. It will allow for different coils if desired. I have a MXT and my girlfriend has the M6. She only coin shoots and a rare beach excursion.

I have not had the XLT, but have had the DFX and yes there are pre set programs that work well, but there is so much more to the detector that I felt I bought more detector then needed. I like simplicity as well and ended up with the MXT and I also have Tesoro models that I really like.

I feel for coin shooting and the occasional beach, the M6 is well suited at a nice price. Let us know what you end up with. :icon_thumright:

Re: MXT vs's M-6 vs's XLT?????????????????

my 2 cents:

1. the m6 is based on the same 'platform' as the mxt. i prefer a machine that offers multi tonal responses to aid in target identification..the m6 has 7 while the mxt primarily has only 1. i also prefer the silent search mode of the m6

2. the m6/mxt/dfx and Vision all use the same coils...if you plan on upgrading in the future this can save 1000s of dollars

3. the xlt almost seems like it is being phased out...it is a great machine but nothing else in white's stable share any coils with it to my knowledge

4. both the mxt and m6 sport a beach mode and the latest groundtracking circuitry

5. put the d2 coil on the m6/mxt and u have a machine capable of hitting coins at 10"

6. the xlt has superior target rejection in that you can eliminate specific vdi's from coming thru

7. the xlt should be hotter for silver while the m6/mxt should be better for gold

all the machines listed are good but i would lean more the way of the m6/mxt for my style of hunting

I want to thank each of you for your replies...You guys are the greatest...This will most likely be the last detector I buy, as money is getting to be a real issue...I kinda like the sound of the M6..I am going to Alexanders in Houston tomorrow to see them in person....I got some literature on Minelab detectors today..a couple of those look interesting...My area is not too bad soil wise.....Once again, thank you all, and feel free to make other suggestions on other brands if you feel there is an easy to use coin shooter...Thanks, Tom Shaw

BTW, does the M6 have good depth, and has anyone used a small coil with it??????

If your willing to put the time in and learn it, You will not be disappointed with the xlt. It would be my pick of the three. But I'm sure the other 2 are good machines. Just have alot of time in with the xlt and found it to be very good. Best of luck in your quest. :icon_thumright:

Re: MXT vs's M-6 vs's XLT?????????????????

Dimes and copper pennies seem to go pretty much undetected past 6'' with the eclipse 5.3 coil. With quarters though I've gotten around 10''!! And the tone and display ID are right on 90% of the time. Pretty good, with such a small coil, I think. With the 9.5 coil I have to turn the sens. way down! And it seems to be a tough machine, being as though I dont baby it like I should!

M6 with the same coil, gets the same depth as the MXT and DFX..

I get very good results with the Eclipse DD 5.3 Shooter coil on my M6. Great trash separation. Have found pennies down to 9 inches with it in moist soil. Dryer soil is still good, but it works better in the moister soil conditions. Small coils search a smaller area, so I always take my stock 9.50 along for the hunt. HH
