Musical instrument mouthpiece??

I immediately thought of a mouthpiece when I found it, but something doesn't seem quite right. I found it beside an old schoolhouse...which is in an area that is heavily farmed. Here's the original thread.

On looking at the bigger picture I withdraw my opinion that it might be a mouthpiece. It appears the end you would blow on is too sharp and would rip your lips off! But I still can't picture it on top of someone's helmet. Is there any history of the area where you found it where there were helmeted troops? I guess what I am saying is I don't have a clue what it might be now. M nty
