Great day for hunting here in the Desert Southwest, sunny and in the mid 50's and the Mrs. gave me the green light to go dig for the day. I headed to my favorite stand by, the local zoo that was founded in 1898. It seems that I'm the only one hunting at the present(maybe not anymore) I headed to a spot that I had a feeling was going to produce today. Well....sure enough, 10 minutes into the hunt and I get a 11/43 12/44 on the CTX, thinking I was about to dig a copper or a clad dime, at 6" out comes a silver dime. I rubbed the back and thought I had a Barber until I turned it over and saw lady Liberty having a seat, 1891 O I almost fell over backwards, usually all the zoo gives up anymore are rosies and mercs, after I picked my jaw up from the ground I gave my buddy(Jimmy) a call and after a few curse words, he did manage a congrats.
I made a another pass and this time I ran my coil over what I thought was a folded dollar bill, I took my phone out to shoot a pic, not having my glass on, I'm thinking maybe a $5. I unfolded it and just started laughing, I couldn't believe my good fortune today!! A freaking $50 bill and a seated in the same day, it pays to follow those hunches!!!
I did manage to find 3 wheats and a 44 merc before calling it a day, all in all, a damn good hunt for this area of the world. Seated coins are as rare as hens teeth around here, and this was my first of the year. My buddy(Jimmy) found a 1876 seated half this summer in a private yard 60 miles from where I live. Hopefully I able to get out one more time this year, this puts my yearly total for silver coins at 77
