Years ago, in the 1980s, I was hunting an old house yard and got two large cents. I thought that was fantastic because I had only found one at a time before that (and very few, I might say, maybe 3 or 4). Then in the Decatur Dig (downtown construction - see 27 Days Digging Decatur) I got 7 over the entire period. Then I discovered how to research and find where the old houses used to be that are cornfields now. The first one that I hit that yielded a large cent gave up 5 of them all together. I thought that was so phenomenal that I would be lucky to ever find another site like that, but lo and behold within a month I found another site where I got 7. That is my record for Large Cents from one house yard. The dates were 183?, 1832, 1835, 1843, 1848, 1851, and 1856.

I imagine you guys on the east coast have done better.

What is your record?

(1) - Two Cent
(5) - Large Cents
(2) - Seated Dimes
(1) - Walking Liberty Half Dollar
(1) - Mercury Dime
(1) - Canadian Silver Dime
(1) - V - Nickel
(8) - Wheat Cents

Good Hunting !

Ha ha ha you can keep imagining 🤣
I've found a few large cents in my early years of hunting, nothing in the last 15 years though... mostly because my hunting partner has a fetish for quarters... and the occasional silver coin and is unwilling to try fields or places that might produce these targets..
Congratulations though sounds like you have found a winning way to hunt !!

That was an awesome yard indeed! I never got two seated dimes out of a house yard. I got 17 from the Decatur sidewalk construction over the month they were working on that. I got 6 in one day from under a sidewalk in Dundee, MI.

Well fella's, in Oregon you find Large cents in something like a coin dealers store, not so much anywhere else.

I have one cellar hole location that has given up over 30.
All pre 1855
My record for one day was 14.

We have a friend that hunts with a Deus 1 - he lives about 60 miles South of us here in Ohio.
Years ago he found (16) Large Cents in a field - they were in a area only 10 or 15 ft. in diameter.
They were probably in a can or a pouch that rotted away and the farmer's equipment dragged them around ?
Wow ... what a heart stopper !

Amen on the heart stopper! I knew there had to be stories like that out there. Thanks for sharing.
