I found and cleaned up some more unidentified iron relics from the same spot I discovered previously described here: http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/what/481220-parts-old-mill-gin-tractor.html

Is this a rosette? A ox nose ring? Not sure the significance of the attached part:

Now this is some kind of nozzle or handle, right? The outside has two flanges parallel to the direction of flow. It has a texture to it on the outside, like little ridges going all the way around the piece (cross ways), down near the tip end...you can see them in the first pic.

This is some kind of metal flap or door. It has a little finger pull on the outside, and on the inside is has raised characters "8-18" I think plus an oval logo? Also looks like cement stuck to it.

Another door/panel thing, but this time much bigger:

Looking forward to the day I can be an armchair expert helping young sprats identify neat old junk. Thanks in advance.

Looks like a ring off a horse bit, a hose nozzle, and some parts to coal or wood burning stoves.

Thank you. All makes sense to me. I'm not totally convinced that this is a nozzle yet, though, because I don't really see how it does anything. I mean, it doesn't taper down much in diameter, and there's nowhere to screw onto anything, but then again maybe you could use an external clamp to clamp a hose onto the outside of the bigger end? Not really sure. Perhaps that's exactly what it is and I just haven't seen them before.

Scratch that on the hose nozzle, that wouldn't be made of iron. I was thinking the threads might have rusted out, but that isn't practical. I don't know what it is.

Item #1 is what is called a 'Terret' from a plow/draft horse collar... The remnant left on your ring is the equivalent of a cotter pin/extra long fence staple.
(A pair of terrets are clearly visible on the upper-left side of the collar pictured below):

The second item is what we call a 'thimble skein' (spindle) from an old wagon axle. A 'boxing' is pressed into the hub bore, forming a bearing surface that turns on the skein. There are a million variations, your skein has the gussets/flanges, others have collars, etc... See below for a general idea:

Tejaas, THANK YOU. That is invaluable information. Researching skeins and boxings just a little bit makes me suspect this might even be the boxing (see pic link below). Who knows for sure. But this is definitely close enough to put the mystery to bed.
