In between the raindrops today I managed to wander about a local school.

The lil brass thingy is beveled. Maybe a ferrule?

Hard to see but it says .925 :)

High end costume or just old.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the one on the right is also a quarter.
Have you EVER seen one that looks like this???

I think the last two are oriented the same. Do you see the eagle? :dontknow:

Strange coin!

Thanks for peeking!

There ya go!, nice to put the fun back in it right Not too sure about the quarterlike coin, i think the pic w/ the angles the same shows that is a quarter but man ive never seen one so toasted. was it in a mound of cow manure? lol

That's just it, this "quarter" came from the same ground the others did but none of them look this bad. Counterfeit? What would do that to a quarter? Weird! :dontknow:

Thanks!

Even with the crud on it do u have a scale to weigh it and compare it to other modern quarters?maybe its an old copper...if so it could get the green verdigis and corrode easier than a quarters metal composition

Weighs in at 5.4 grams. Bout the same. :dontknow:

HA! At first I was thinking punch-out, but then did see the eagle. Ive found many punch-outs but they corrode different and stick to a magnet.

I had that same thought. I also thought it might be a copper. But, no, I am pretty sure it is a quarter or a reasonable facsimile.

I have pulled a LOT of clad quarters. None of them were like this. So, what is it, pure luck I found this one? Has ANYone found one even close to this? It's really starting to bug me. Was it a failed science project? From another dimension? ;)

you did find it at a school, perhaps some kids wierd experiment, and/or paint on it i dunno? just a guess, I found a purple painted penny at a park once. WOW say that 5x real fast:laughing7:

Dug many coppers out having the thick green coating on them, now a quarter is different for sure. Could it be possible that there was a penny with the quarter in the hole and it was missed while digging up the quarter?

Never seen one that caked

That is an extraordinarily corroded quarter. It's uniqueness gives it some value, I'd say. Maybe 24 cents...? :laughing7:

Not likely. I'm far from perfect but I do check pretty thoroughly. Even so, I've found many pennies and quarters together. None have affected the quarters to this extent. :dontknow:

Well, if it's what I'm thinking it might be, it just might be a big deal. If this is truly a counterfeit clad quarter, it's worth zilch no matter the condition. The problem is, if it's counterfeit, how many of the quarters in your pocket are worth absolutely nothing?:icon_scratch:

In at least a little bit of seriousness, counterfeit money is a BIG problem!

Do I really think this is fake? No. But, I DO have a completely fake remnant of an 1876 seated liberty half dollar, it is possible. :)

Thanks!
