Went back to the campsite where I found a Cavalry button last Sunday. 20201223_185054 (2).jpgScreenshot_20201223-192516_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20201223-192915_Gallery.jpg A heel cap, a few leads and another piece of harmonica. The small lead ball has a large sprue still on it and never fired I assume. I don't know if the bullet is the same period but found in the center of the camp. This site has had Osage Indians, soldiers and settlers pass through it. Anybody have any input on the bullets?

I’ll say I suspect they the osage/early settlers liked to hunt the low ground by the river, that’s where I find the most round balls. Based on when they were in the area and what technology was available I’d say odds are most round balls are indian since rifling was around for a few decades when whites came in. But I have found mention that many people were poor and still used cap and ball. The other thing I found is you can weigh them and be able to convert that to an estimate of caliber. .49 is the most common one I find which I assume would fit in a 50 cal.
The slug has crenellations so it’s post civil war I forget the exact date they started that, 1870’s I think, Probably more modern.
