We got back out yesterday and finished looking some creeks and areas started last weekend, did pretty well again. Another muddy day, temps in the mid 70s with lots of sun, not too shabby for January! We were out only about 4 hours today looking.

Combined finds, we split them again this week but it ended up that we each kept what we picked up.

Large blade, poor picture quality but very nice artifact, right at 4" long:

Here's what I took home, all brokes are of very high quality, thin and well made!

Super N.C. finds. That big Guy almost looks to be a huge Guilford. Real nice Morrow mountain also. What are you thinking on that broken side notch? Halifax?

I think it Big Sandy, but Halifax is also possible.

I'm headed to NC. this spring just for hunting points...any tips?

What part of NC? I really only know the central part of the state and its artifacts well. I've tried the western part with no luck but not really spent a lot of time, same in the east.

You do really well in FL, I'd say just apply the same principles here that you do there and you should find success. For me, conditions "day of" dictate how I look. Sometimes looking for color, sometime shape. Creeks are something I'm finally just figuring out. Lakes are good but often off limits due to legalities. Fields are harder and harder to come by anymore.

Thanks.. I will be staying in Rocky Mount. I'm real excited to check out the creeks... the person I'm staying with has several good permission fields bordering some nice old water. He does great in the fields but has little creek experience.

You should do well then. There are several nice rivers and creeks around Rocky Mount to work off of and if he's got fields, even better! I'm about 45 mins west of Rocky Mount in Raleigh. The whole state, heck, the whole country is covered up with artifacts!

Man! That center piece and the large Morrow Mt. Are incredible. You have one heck of a creek! No punch line on that one.

I always like seeing the artifacts from N.C and the metal detecting finds. Nice bunch you guys found today. I like the Morrow mtn insitu. Big ole blade. That was the find I bet for the day. You are right that fields are getting harder to hunt due to no plow and creeks will be the producers of the future. My problem is our creeks are what they call rivers in most places. I may concentrate on ancient streams some.
Good hunt congratulations.

Lol! I told a friend a few days back that y'all call rivers creeks there.

Yeah a creek to me is something you might get your feet wet in but here a creek is something you can swim across.

Well... They are all 1 of a kind.. Irreplaceable Tools made By ancient cultures. Some of the ones above are over 5000 years old. What would they be worth to you? That's really the answer... they are only worth the amount of little pieces of paper someone is willing to trade for them. JMO.
