Hello LrgCent!

I agree, in my opinion it's way different than a McClellan saddle stirrup, for the same reasons that you named.

I've looked a lot of places to find one similar, but I haven't yet.

Basically, you just gotta search the 'net for "antique stirrup" or "antique silver plated stirrup" and sift through the images, hour after hour.

Hopefully someone will see your post that knows what you've got already, or where to find it and that saves a lot of time!

Have you made enough cleaning progress to post new pics?

Please keep us updated!

Hey SKYPILOT, I just got home and checked it, its getting there, the rust just wont give up yet and the silver plating, well..... it definitely seen its better days, kinda like you see in the pics above. At first dunk the plating cleaned up really good giving me the impression the whole thing was going to clean up fairly well but its just been in the ground to long to unforgiving soil. Stay Tuned!

We'll definitely give it a try my friend!

Now we have several things to go by that we couldn't be sure of before, so perhaps that'll help.

No problem with the wait, LrgCent!

That's just what it takes to do the job, I'm sure glad you took the advise BuckleBoy gave us, instead of chunkin' it into the "whatever" pile!

I'll keep looking on line and in collections for it, with several of us looking, maybe we'll be rewarded with success!

Regards

Hey LrgCent, is it possible to take a shot of it from the same distance (or thereabouts) as the first set you posted?

It's a bit too close to get any small details off of, at the moment!

Not Yet! still researching, hoping someday I will or someone will hit it!
Went relic hunting again today at another logging camp, charging batteries for the camera (hope they are not shot) Button, logging slide spikes about a dozen 10" to 12' long, tool made from old up and down saw blade, my buddy found a miniature horse shoe??? He thinks it was made for log boots to walk on ice in winter about as big as your hand and still has nails in it??? and an old I think whiskey flask that has a star with a circle around it and the letter F on the bottom, soaking right now, button looks like copper stamped over lead? I will try to get photo's up ASAP

If the stirrup is hand made and not a military pattern, possibly the only way to get a match is to find the other one. :laughing7:

Horse shoe sounds interesting :icon_thumright:

Re: More ID Needed on Silver Stirrup

Finally found one very close to mine on eBay, listed as Revolutionary war stirrup dug beside Fort Mott a documented British outpost in SC. Not silver plated but the closest match I or anyone can find?
