As many of you may have read in previous posts I have been working a fair/carnival grounds for sometime. Today as I was swinging I hit a strong VDI about +64 to+69. I thought oh well it's early I’ll dig this penny, wooooooohoooo, a ring, gold colored, wooooooohoooooo. Took a quick look and tossed it in the bag and continued off for some more treasure. When I got home and cleaned it up I was unable to find a “K” indicator stamped in it, but I did find a 999.9 stamped there. OK I’m stumped. All the gold rings I have tested (never found one yet) or from what I have read the VDI should have been in the 20-40’s. This ring is kinda heavy for the size, looks to be a child’s ring or a pinky ring.

Please take a look and give comment, and maybe we can figure out if this ring is gold or ???????

Thanks in advance for looking and commenting

UPDATE My good friend and Brother in Christ "old California" took this ring home and tested it yesterday and determined that it is GOLD at minimum 18 K at max 20 K. It weight 4.5 grams.

Thanks to all for the Good Thoughts and especially the encouraging comments.

looks gold to me --- if its pure 999.9 % (24 K) it should be very very soft in nature. might be a "pure" silver with gold overlay but I hope its gold for you

I don't think a ring marked 999.9 would be any kind of plated silver. I see no reason for it not to be real Gold... Take it to a jeweler, coin shop, antique shop or pawn shop and have it tested. Let us know what you find out.

Keep @ it and HH!!

Could be "vermeil" a jeweler's term meaning silver overlaid with gold. That might explain why you got a higher signal than you would expect with gold
Definitely, have it tested and let us know!
Nice find, either way

Not a 24K ring. My buddy found one of those .999 rings, and it sounded like a silver quarter/half dollar on his Explorer. 24K rings definitely will ID very high on the conductive scale.

Awesome Find! Looks like a pure gold ring to me!!

I'm highly doubtful of a 24kt gold ring. Too soft. I had a pair of "24kt" gold earrings that a boyfriend brought me from Vietnam. They were of a hoop style and not real shiny. And they bent very, very easily. If I used the phone, they misshaped. I gave them to my niece. Turned out he was a jerk, so probably were made of clay? But the color was "gold" and they were very "bendable." I'll never know.

if it is silver it has to state that on the ring somewhere... so if it look like gold then it's gold... if it is inlayed over another precious metal then both would have to be marked onthe ring somewhere... example 925 14kep

When I found this ring, it was bent up pretty good and tonite as I sat and examined this ring I was able to straighten up the circle with my hands indicating that the metal is very soft.

if it is very soft it might just be a "pure" gold ring indeed--its smaller size could be from it belonging to a asian person -- the letter "V" as in Van or other asian names is not that uncommon-- plus in vietnam and thailand are often where 24 k gold items are often made (also 24 and 22 k are big in the middle east as well) -- although really too soft for jewelry by most folks standards (since they tend to bend up easily) the locals (thais and vietnamese) insist on their jewelry being "pure gold" -- that way its sort of a portible bank on their hand --cash wize.

to be vermeil it would have to state that on the ring somewhere... please read my first post..thank you also for it to be marked 999.9 pure there cannot be any other metals mixed with it... as I stated before if it looks gold then it's gold....

Re: More hard work at the fair grounds pays off, It might be GOLD, I hope!!!

I've had Vietnamese "baht" gold 24k marked 99.9. I think you have the real deal there.
