After our last effort, I wanted to see what Land-Mag's research brought up. It was 2 good leads:
First one has Rape Crop growing, so I field walked (no detector) between the crop to look for the signs; I got some roman pottery, 1 Roman Nail, & oyster shell. First site confirmed as a good target.
Second one was, in my opinion, a long shot but I did manage 1 scrappy - not a site, but I now believe its associated with a possible Roman Trackway (a current theory).
We did however, find a Roman Site with loads of pottery, all the other good signs, but it had clearly been done to almost death...
We did manage 2 scrappies from here, with a Roman Ring top & a Roman Bracelet piece. Plus our first Roman harness fitting (of this type):
Record ID: SUSS-7A9952 - ROMAN strap fitting - Database
We did lots of walking & its all helped in getting to know the land better, plus it felt better to find somewhere (x2) in only 3.5 hours.
What I was pleased about finds wise was an 18th C Silver Button (makers mark IB) - I have very few silver buttons!
Plus my first RN Purser circa 1820s Button.
Other finds:
Medieval (crushed) beehive Thimble
Edward I Hammered Penny - Bury St Edmunds Mint - Dad got this & this mint is a rare find for us.
