Hello everybody...

had to wait till late afternoon to get back on the road due to workmen on site ??? the ground now was baked very hard due to the very warm weather :icon_sunny:

had another hammered this time a cut scottish quarter (not quite sure which monarch) three more Roman bronzes came up but only one with any detail ::)

Then had a great find out of the rock hard groud, Celtic Terret ring with drop down fixing bar (1st Century) this is a first for me, then just nearby the best of the day :headbang: Roman Bow Brooch in amazing condition and the pin intact, it's so well preserved I could proberbly get the pin to rotate with a little soak and patience ::) have a look at the pictures :thumbsup:SS

Wonderful finds SilverSearcher. Couldn't have a better situation to search from.

Regarding the brooch, was the pin actually spring loaded? Kind of looks like it, but maybe it's just wound over the post?

Just killer finds. Keep us all in the loop and good luck on those 'treasure' finds. I know it can be hard to step in line with the historical officials over there. But who knows, maybe you'll get the finds returned before you retire.

Hi DMN :hello: yes the pin is wound around the top of the brooch, this is the first one of this type that I have found with the pin still attached :o

I think the part it came from was a grass field and hasn't seen much ploughing , that's why it has survived in such great condition

SilverSearcher, another awesome hunt, and group of finds! I'd love to find one (1) Roman artifact, and with you folks, its a weekly occurrence. That brooch is beautiful!
Thanks MJ...

not often a Golden opertunity comes your way :) I just have to make the most of it now

Keep posting these great finds coming :icon_thumright:

Is the brooch in such a good condition due to the depth at which it was recovered? Haven't been exposed to modern day fertilizer?

Could be IS, like I said come from a grass field that hasn't seen much, if any ploughing

It's amazing sometimes how a bit of metal can servive in such good condition , ... and others not ? I've added a pic. of two fibula's that I found in the Netherlands , they too have servived hansomely ,... I believe .

From the deep Dutch clay , an Anaerobic state ?? Anyway these fibula's have been dipped in paraffin wax for preservation . A Dutch Detectorest I meet there in Holland does this , ... Do y'll do the same in the U.K. ??
Great Job There Mate !! Blindpig
