Yesterday, I went back to the old stone chimney site where I dug my "US" American / Indian Wars buckle last year.
This time I was equipped with my new Tesoro Vaquero. The finds were tough due to all the pieces of the old tin roof scattered everywhere. I did dig up two small hibernating Black snakes in separate holes during the day. :o I put them back to sleep though. :sleepy2:
This place has turned up an unbelievable amount of old harmonica reeds. I'm thinking they may tie in with the old mill that is just down the hill. :dontknow:
Nothing too fantastic found, but the two old brooches were pretty neat to find.
Thanks for looking,
MM

Yep, that was me. I was going to wear my deer outfit, but I thought it would be safer to just wear the mask. :laughing9:

Those snakes freaked me out. Now everytime I stick my hand in a hole I think about a snake being in there hibernating. :o

Thanks MM,

Yeah...good choice on the mask...the deer outfit :o That could have been detrimental to your health around here anyway. Running deer in our fields usually end up in our freezer. :laughing9: Oh No :o, am I aloud to say that. :-\ ;D

LOL.
On page #18 of American Digger this month there is an iron eagle clock like the one you guys now own. I about soiled myself when I saw it in there. :o They say it is from the 1870's. At least it wasn't CW or I would have kicked myself. :laughing9:

Thanks Jeff.
The hills are alive with the sound of music. :laughing9: I swear that's a song. ;D
I'm still baffled why such a large amount of harmonica reeds have been turning up at this place. :dontknow:
I wish they had dropped more coins while they were drinking shine. :occasion14:
Thanks Dude!

Blaze

Thanks JB.
I think I need to invest in a 5.75" coil for the trashy areas, like around this chimney so I can pick out the good targets.
There is another old house site with only the stone foundation left just down the hill that turns up some nice relics too. Lots of vines around it so its hard swinging.

Dawg,
Yep, they are from that stone chimney area in this photo. The mill (what kind I haven't a clue :dontknow:) is just down the hill at the stream. The main stream was at one point damned across by a large long dirt mound. It is clear as day if you could see it. You can also see the area on both sides of the stream where they dug the dirt from to build the huge mound. They picked a spot of the stream where there is huge boulders on the bottom of the stream to give a solid base. The damn portion is long gone, but you can see where both sides of the mound connected at one time. Once the water rose in the damn it went along the bypass up higher running parallel to the main stream. Sorry for the cheesy drawing. (you should see my stick dog drawing :laughing9:)
Any idea what type of mill this would have been?
I'll try to take pictures next time I am over there. I bet it would have been one heck of a swimming hole back then too!
Thanks for any input.
