More big silver from the Iceberg!

Had some good luck the last week hunting. Hunted a couple spots including two trips to the 'berg.

Saturday Nate and I went and I was determined to get a Buffalo Nickel. Our last trip out there I had dug only one nickel but it was a 1938 Jefferson. I had not found a Buffalo yet this year so I really wanted to find one. The first "nickel" signal I got turned out to be a pull tab. Might have gotten a wheat penny next but then the next nickel signal turned out to be a 1936 Buffalo. ;D I dug over 25 pull tabs and what are the chances of the second signal being a Buffalo?

Anyway, proceeded to find rosie's, wheats and such. Then just as it was getting close to quitting time Nate says we should go. I say fine but he pauses and thinks. Decides to maybe give the area another 15 minutes. I wasn't expecting much but got a signal. Scraped away some leaves and it sounded like silver. Called over to Nate that I thought it was silver and dug the plug. The coin landed with the dirt in the plug and I saw a bigger shiney disc. A closer look and I saw an worn partial eagle looking at me. One of the few times in my metal detecting career where I just looked at the coin in unbelief before even touching it. My first Barber Half. :o

So we did another 10 minutes and then Nate wanted to try the area that was the original iceberg hotspot. We weren't there more than 5 minutes or so and I was just chillin - not even planning on doing anymore detecting when Nate yells out "SCORE"!
I jump over and look in the hole and see a barber dime at the bottom(see Nate in Ohio’s post for picture). Here are some more pics.

A couple silver Quarters.

The 1965 Canadian Dime is silver. Canadian dimes were 80% silver until 1967. It was reduced to 50% that year.

A crappy 1903 IH.

A bunch of wheat pennies. Man, 1919 was a common year.

Final group shot with the silver rosies, a marble and an old Ford key.

Anybody know aprox age of the key?

WOW!!! Congrats on that sweet big silver. Another first off the short list left to find. I would think there must be at least one gold coin there to dig with all the sweet old coins you guys have pulled from there. So go get it Bob, keep digging those pulltab signals. Yo got to believe it can happen...and it will. Best of luck buddy, congrats on all the sweet iceberg finds as usual.

Smiles!

Sorry to hear that you didn't have much luck, just those old coins.....

Amazing finds.

I want an iceberg of my very own!!.........
Key is approx. 1955 to around 1963.
Glad to see myself and a co-hunter aren't the only ones stuck on 1919. I hunted a home last week where the first two of three wheaties I dug were 1919. About half way through the hunt, the owner asked me what all I had found. I told her, and she said, "That's weird. My house was built in 1919". Stranger even still is, I've found 8 this year alone, and EVERYone of them are no-mintmark (Philly) coins. My wheatie book is still missing the D.
Congrats on your continued success at the "Iceberg". A MDers dream come true.
Regards,
Jules

That site absolutely rocks... I agree with BDoo, there has to be a gold coin in that area... Espically with all the great finds it has produced... Thanks for the post and the great pics...
Congrats on the BH... That one is still on my wish list...

Dude

read my post on Sunday's Iceberg hunt. Mountainplayer suggests a picture (or two or three) of all the Iceberg coins to date together. Do you think it's feasible? I actually think it'd be worth it just for the visual impact. It might take a while to set up but with you doing the lighting and me and Nate helping w/the arrangement...I say let's go for it.
That Barber half would look great next to Nate's and all the Walkers and your Franklin...the Morgan et al, etc.

Call me and let's do it!

Thanks all.

Thanks BDoo. I am surprised at the lack of jewelry here. Dan I think is the only one who has found anything decent in that department- one ring. I do admit that I have not been faithful in digging those tab signals in the past.

Wow! Another good day at the Iceberg. What for some would be a good week, or month you guys get routinely on a daily basis. Beauty of a Barber. Found my first Barber Half on my anniversary, in my in-laws yard. Just another reason to celebrate. Way to go!

Nice digs mirage, I've been on a drought, my last silver was almost two weeks ago(another merc), I'm chompin' at the bit for some shiny stuff !! - HH

:o Wow, nice finds Mirage! Love the Barber half. Heck of a place you have to hunt there. What was it in it's previous life?

Keep digging!

We have to wait until we get those gold rings. Don't you think they are there? Also, have to give a little thought to how we would mark our coins.

Great pics as usual! And sweet pulls from 'The Beg!'
You guys in Ohio rock!
Pound that site.

Mirage,

Unbelievable haul of really great coins. I'll continue, like everyone else, to look forward to seeing the Iceburg finds.

The wheats look really great, as usual. Nice job, Nate.

Awesome finds Mirage and congrats on the Barber Half! The key looks like it is from the 70s, my first impression. HH, Mike

Bob,
You guys amaze me withe the coins you find at that spot.
Congrats on the 1/2 and the buffalo. Very sweet.
I too would LOVE to see a picture of all the finds grouped together. You guys must have a bazillion wheats so you'll need a wide lens. ;D
Great post.
Thanks,
MM
