I arrived about 5:30AM to hunt the Cherry Beach area of Long Beach, CA. Half the parking lot on the beach had no parking signs on them, so I assume at some point during the day there was going to be filming going on. Many Production Companies do filming around Long Beach.
I was hunting the edges of the beach along a low block wall running the length of the parking lot and along the edge of the beach bicycle path. This beach get hunted a lot, so I hit the obscure areas of the beach.
As the sun was rising I heard a very strong signal ... I made two scoops to retrieve it ... as I was shaking the sand out of the scoop ... I saw giant round gold with that solid clanking in the scoop, I about jumped up and down like that Digger Dude
... Only to find out it was gold plated carbon steel.
If there is weird stuff in the sand, I will find it! I found a 5 peso coin that was turned into a button, Vivi Nova Tank Atomizer, costume jewelry, about five bucks in clad, and other stuff, along with a nice sunrise and a TV Production. It will be in the 80's for the next few days. It appears we may not get much rain this year. January is the wettest month for SoCal and so far zero rain. I was hoping for some strong winter storms for some good beach erosion to find lot of old silver.
No gold or silver today, but I got a rush and an half when the monster gold clanked in the scoop.
Around 6:30 the production crew was pouring into the parking lot. They even brought their own Lifeguard Truck. The yellow Lifeguard Truck in the picture says LA County on the side. As I was scanning toward the area, I was told to stay on the other side of the Lifeguard Truck as not to get in the shot. The sign says that NCIS filming was going on, so I took a few pictures, and kept moving. That tank pumper truck in the parking lot was part of the shot. It hauled ass through the parking lot, turned sideways and stopped, with smoke coming out from under the hood.
