Some old and rare spirits are now worth big bucks. Finest & Rarest Vintage Spirits, Wines and Liqueurs Is this one of them?

I cannot find any information or date on this vintage sealed corktop liqueur.

It appears to say Monastine Liqueur 80 proof bottled by NATIONAL DISTILLERY.

On the bottom small label it says imported by Kraus Bros & Co Inc. New York, N.Y.

Embossed on the back NATIONAL DISTILLERY KRASNE BREZNO CZECHO-SLOVAKIA

I haven't find anything about this liqueur yet either, but I did find this site maybe contacting this collector may bring some info about this liqueur you have.

If nothing else you may enjoy his website, he has 1000s of mini bottles!!!!

www.MINIBOTTLES.com - THE place for all mini-bottle collectors - WELCOME
Ill check it out. Research can be fun but also exhausting and time consuming but I have almost 100 sealed vintage minis and I want to sell them all. I cant sell them on eBay new rules. http://www.drinkspirits.com/other/ebay-bans-alcohol-sales-whisky-auction-alternatives/

Hey Bigcypress,

This is the oldest bottle that you have shown this evening. I am sure it is prewar.

"MONASTINE ABBAYE ST. GRATIEN.—
A pale yellow French liqueur, slightly similar to Yellow Char-treuse." Cafe Royal

It's a French Liqueur according to that wonderful poster. The poster is circa late Twenties to middle Thirties.

I've never heard of it before. It may not have survived the war. Might be one of those lost flavors. I'd drop a line & a photo to those Finest Rarest guys...

Im not sure if the lithograph is the same as the bottle. Can a French liqueur be made in Czecho-slovakia?

Some of these old liqueurs are getting huge prices from $1,000 to $10,000 dollars in the larger bottles. Too bad eBay no longers allows selling of spirits. Im hoping this little bottle has value. Its rare but maybe too rare to have any real interest. It will be interesting to find out. I purchased it at a flea market in the early 70s for $1.

Hey Bigcypress,

Some of the liqueur afficianadoes would pay well, I believe. Too bad it is a miniature. A small forgotten taste from the past.

There is scant information about it, so that seems a good thing from the rarity standpoint...

Meanwhile, have you experienced any further huge screenitis episodes?

The screen today is fine. The only problem I am having today is editting.

I finally found the sad smiley face. We have smileys in at least 3, maybe 4 different places. Some of the smileys are never used. This is a great site with some great features but many of the features are useless and/or repetitious and others are aggravating and time consuming. Apparently the owners dont believe in user-friendly features.

Is Monastine a French or Czech word? Can French Liqueur be made in Czecho-slovakia?

There is little information on the importer Kraus Bros. & Co. Inc. A couple of lawsuits. Maybe someone will find something.

Your pics are still larger than most but they fit on my screen now. How are you posting pics? I use the Go Advanced.

My pics are much larger but the site edits them down. How do you post so large?

For me TN is a complete mess. It just froze up completely when I tried to post an image from using "Insert Image" above. These problems occur for me on a regular basis,

3 attempts and I cannot post from the "Insert Image" option above.

My guess you are posting from above, straight from the website and the software URL is not editting down. There are too many useless options on this site IMO. It shouldnt matter where you post from, the image size should remain the same. Sometimes when you post surf, the image is so large it wouldnt fit on 5 screens lol. It seems the site is set up to run itself but IMO there are problems that are not being addressed and I believe it will cause a loss of some of the oldtimers like myself that dont have a lot of computer savvy and little patience. I have already had to shut the website off and back on twice. Its just too aggravating and time consuming.

Stand fast, Bigcypress,

I posted that image using the .jpg from that link, and sandwiching it between a couple of these bracket guys:

It's a faster way for me, to post an image. Is this an accepted method in these parts?

I dont know whats accepted and whats not. I never heard of your method and you are possibly the only person here using it. I am not very computer savvy.

I would say any method is acceptable but if it shows 3 times the size of my computer screen than obviously I cannot view it or read anything around it. And if I cant view it, I would think that some others cannot view it either.

The last pic image that you posted is fine but some of your images in the past are very huge and it seems to mess up the entire page, not just the one with the image. Im guessing that when you post that way, the TN site does not or cannot edit it down to fit the page properly.

Well at least that explains the mystery. When one of your images becomes so large that it cant be viewed, members are likely just to ignore the entire thread instead of complaining. Something to think about.

If you post with the "Go Advanced" option, the site will automatically resize your image for proper viewing. Members can click on the image to enlarge.

When you post an image with your method, viewers cannot click on to enlarge because its already full size. And often full size is larger than most screens.

I know, I know, the "Go Advanced method is time consuming and I dislike it myself but it works the best.

I still cant edit, very frustrating and back page doesnt work properly. Most of these problems existed since day one and have not been addressed..

Do this test Surf. Click on any other image and click on again and you will see that it can be enlarged. Cool feature right? Now click on yours. Your method of posting cannot be enlarged. My guess they are already full size.

Makes it a lot bigger but whatever, saves me time and aggravation.
Yea but you may be causing unnecessary aggravation to others, like Surf did, if the image is too large. If the image is too large, I cannot view it and it messes up the entire thread! I doubt I am the only member having this problem. If you post too large, other members will not be able to view or easily reply to the thread. If you guys post large images you will mess it up for others.

There are many great features here on the new TN. It just needs to be tweeked and simplified.
