Like I said ... call me stupid, but the first one on the page I'm looking at is a "Three Ring Sharp Shooter." ??? What am I missing. ??? Are you accessing the site from your desk top, or from the link I posted above. Maybe something has changed, but that doesn't make sense. Either that or else I have a full page apology coming trying to explain that I'm really not an idiot despite how it looks! :tongue3:

The site will change as those are bullets John has for sale and he will update as he buys and sells the bullets. It will be the same with civilwarbuttons.com

Thanks vayank54 :

I kind of suspected that, but haven't keyed in on the site enough to catch the coming and going of what's shown. I guess everybody knows this but me, but I'm still a little confused that rarely are dates mentioned. I guess it's just assumed they are from the Civil War era. ??? Although, it's really not necessary to educate me on this, I'm just emphasising how little I know, and should probably stay in my own back yard hunting for soda bottles. However, I did find that one bullet site that everyone seemed to like, didn't I? Maybe I'm good for something after all. ???

That's cool. I think all of John's bullets are civil war period not of of William's buttons will be but he will have them marked as to whether they are civil war or not. No doubt they are both good sites and I'm sure it helped a lot of people by posting them.

Bob,I am trying to convince you how good you are!!!! ;D
Trader you had me going, that last one sure looks like the mold but the mold would produce a solid base I think....but then again I dont know how they cast a mold to have a concave base? :icon_scratch:

Please don't yell at me for what may very well be my last post on this topic, and I thank kuger and all the rest for the encouragement, but there is another definition for the word "mold." Sorry, folks ... I just couldn't help myself! Remember, I'm the guy that crawls around under the brush looking for bottles that people threw away fifty years ago! And every time I walk along the old roads on one of my hunts, I just know that passerby's think I'm homeless and looking for aluminum cans. But really I'm not! I actually live in a real house, and have a real computer that I spend way too much time on! The only thing I don't have is a "life." Oh well ... life goes on!

MERRY CHRISTMAS to all, and to all a good night!

P.S. Just kidding about the mold part, I find this topic most interesting ... except out west here where I live there aren't many old bullets laying around. When we shot at something we seldom missed! LOL

I was apologizing for missing SS's link. I'm getting senile or something.
I can tell you for sure the mold isn't to a one ring gardner. The gardner doesn't have that pointy nose. All the civil war period bullets that have that pointy type nose are foriegn bullets.
Bob don't feel bad. I know civil war bullets and button because I've been messing with that stuff so long. I know a little about bottles but I'm sure you know a lot more about them than I do. At least you were trying to help and like I said I'm sure those site were helpul to some people. Hope you have a great Christmas too. Talking about not having a life. I got to thinking one day mine kind or revolves around noise and dirt. Kind of sad isn't it.

I wasn't going to reply again, but I just gotta ask vayank54 what the "noise" part is all about? Does your metal detector have a combustion engine or something like the one that Pastore guy used on the Jesse James treasure hunt? (Actually it didn't have a motor, but it took a flat-bed truck to haul the dang thing around!) :icon_scratch:

Dirt and Noise ... hmmm - I'm trying, but I just don't see the connection. Maybe you should post this on "What Is It?" LOL :dontknow:

Well The detector I use most ( whites blue gray) had a constant tone and I'm digging in the dirt.
I run heavy equipment and I'm usually digging dirt. I run sound for my kid's band and some different events. That's noise and if it's an outside event there is usually dust or mud. And pretty much anything else I've been doing, working on my daugther's house, cutting wood, etc involves noise and dirt.

Thanks. I get it now! I guess everybody already knew that except me. I've only been a Tnet member a short time, and am still the new kid on the block. And something tells me the 54 is your age. I'm 57, so I guess that makes you the kid! LOL I'm not a Vet, but my father and brother are, and I take the hat off my bald head to you guys!

You're welcome. I'm just kind of joking around on the dirt/noise thing but that's the way it way it seems. I doubt anyone else knows. I've only been on here for a few months myself. Well the 54 isn't my age but I might as well tell you it's the year I was born so you were close. I'm not a vet either but I too take my hat off to those who are.

I was born in 52, so you're still the kid. In high school we probably wouldn't even have talked to each other. And now I get the "va" part. I thought it stood for vet. But I bet it stands for Virginia! (No response necessary). Right now on the Military channel I'm watching The Battle of Gettysburg, followed by a segmant on The Gettysburg Address. Tear jerking stuff. But, I guess, necessary. ???
