I thought you folks might enjoy seeing this very cool bayonet my wife's Uncle found in his backyard in Ohio while prepping the ground to build a barn. I was helping him install a new A/C unit this past weekend and he just pulls this out and gives it to me! It is in remarkably nice condition for having been buried in the ground. It laid very close to the shallow limestone bedrock, so that may have helped to preserve it. From what info I can find it appears to be from a Model 1809 Prussian or "Potsdam" Musket. These were imported from Prussia for use in the Civil War early on and many saw use with the Ohio troops.
Needless to say, I have permission to hunt this yard and will do so soon. If I make some cool finds I will post them.
