To all:
I went with my 11 years old son, Benjamin to our favorite site that consisted of a trash pit and old campsite of the US Army. I let him play hooky from school for the day as I had the day off. We had a great time together digging in the dirt. We started in the trash pit and then moved to a campsite after lunch.
Finds from MDing the campsite (top portion of the photo) produced 8 mine balls (same hole) a tin flask, some modern bullets and some brass junk with one artillery cuff button. Ben found the arrow head.
Bottom part of the photo, produced from around 12 wheel barrel loads and sifted over 6 hours from the trash pit.
From top to bottom and left in the attached photo.
4 Round balls with several small round balls (ball and buck loads) two lead buttons, one and a half wood buttons, two brass brads, brass scraps, a base ring from a plume atop a musician dress hat, 8 eagle buttons (1 large Infantry and 4 small Infantry, one rife cuff button, one brass tack, several bone and peril buttons, a horse head (from a chess piece), 3 iron buckles, a small pile of percussion caps, a hardy hat eagle pendant (hit it with the shovel), a piece of porcelain with a image on it, one ivory domino, an old lock, the sole to a boot, two pipes, and several scrap pieces of pipes. One of the pipe pieces (in green) has ?President Fillmore? written on the base. I have found similar whole pipes that have the president?s face on it.
President Fillmore 1853-1857, as I still believe the pit is before 1860.
We had a great day and made some memories. Now it is time to split the loot between us.
Thanks for reading and keep on digging.
