A man found himself behind bars late Sunday night after allegedly threatening to kill his girlfriend and her 6-month-old child, and eventually attacking the woman with a pencil.
Ricardo Arregoyte-Montanez, 24, is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a total of $70,000 in bonds and also has been put on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold, according to jail records. He is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of unlawful restraint.
Conroe police officers responded to a domestic disturbance in progress at the Cimarron Park apartment complex on Montgomery Park Boulevard just after 7 p.m., Conroe police Sgt. Joe Smart said.
Dispatchers had originally told officers that someone had broken into the apartment through the front door. When they arrived, however, they found no damage to the door and were unable to get an answer from anyone inside, Smart said.
After radioing back into dispatch, the officer was told that the disturbance could still be heard in the background of the phone call, Smart said. The officer knocked on the door again, and was able to get an answer, but the door was still locked.
With a disturbance allegedly in progress and no clear answer from inside the home aside from noise, the officer kicked the door in, Smart said. Inside, Ricardo Arregoyte-Montanez, 24, was allegedly walking toward the officer before he was placed in handcuffs.
A woman inside the home explained to the officer that Arregoyte had allegedly returned home heavily intoxicated, Smart said. The two got into an argument, when Arregoyte allegedly became aggressive.
Arregoyte went into the kitchen and allegedly brandished a knife, threatening to kill her if she called for help, Smart said. He then allegedly made a motion as if he were going to throw the 6-month-old infant against the wall.
Eventually, Arregoyte went outside to smoke a cigarette, and the woman quickly locked the door to keep him outside.
Arregoyte then allegedly broke in through the bedroom window, Smart said. Back inside the apartment, he allegedly grabbed a pencil and lunged at the woman, who was also trying to protect the infant.
Police found numerous scratches up and down her arms that she claimed were the result of Arregoyte allegedly assaulting her, Smart said.
