Found this MDing in front yard of 1800's farm house site. It is non ferrous, I think brass. I have dug tons of square nails and other primitive fasteners, but this one caught my eye as it was not rusty and the spike shape vs more elongated nail shape.

Any ideas on usage and history of this mini spike?

I've found a number too... I think they're neat because they really are a little spike. Brass or bronze. I don't know what they were used for, but I assume used on something that may get wet.

I think that it would make a great wedge to use to tighten hammer, axe, etc handles. Very Cool.

It's Cool & can be used by somebody creative 'with old Dug Stuff" I recall a Cool Bird House one Member made out of dug items . It was def, My style of Bird House.

I keep all the Brass , Spikes , Screws , Nails (Many Square Types) , & other Brass Hardware. JIC

Looks a lot like the wedge that goes in the forearm of old muzzleloader rifles to attach barrel to stock/forearm

Could be, however all I've seen are iron and not tapered. If I had to put money on it, I'd say not gun related.
