In Robert Garman's book "Mystery Gold of the Superstitions," in a Chapter called "The Bushwackers," Bob mentions that he climbed Miner's Needle and looked through the hole.

Anyone know of any other description of that event? Is there video (no), pics or coorborating statements, etc...

I though it would be fun to do the same, but I don't see how he did it without climbing gear (ropes, grappling type hooks, etc..) or the ability to jump straight up 20 feet. Maybe he did have climbing gear or he somehow had a ladder up there? A friendly boost from a friend or two? Does anyone have more detail about this story?

Pic I took from the top of Miner's Needle.

When imagination flies, all are possible. A "facsimile" statement with another Superstitions lore writers.
Could be true , depending to which camp are you belonging.

I remember going up that trail for the 1st time. When I got to the hairpin that I think is at the bottom left of the photo, I kept going straight until I realized that I was off trail. Nice place to camp at Whiskey Spring with a good flat spot, fire pit, bench and water.

Did you make it up to Miner's Needle? There were 2 cairns that I saw up there so, I wasn't the first, surely.
If you can see that hairpin in the trail in the pic, then you can see one of the Dutchman's supposed routes, the Mexican girl one. Coming in from the right, around that hairpin, then at the next "Y" stay to the right. That'll drop ya down into Whiskey Springs.

I found the "Indian Head" on the Bark and Ely Map #2 in this here book I got, as well. At least, it appears to be in a similar location if "Picacho" is Picacho Butte.
This is the first reference to it I know about outside of hearing local dutch-hunters talk about it.
