Minelab Sovereign GT vs White's V3i/VX3

Just wondering if anyone has used and compared the Sovereign GT against the White's series of V detectors. The Sovereign is a no bells and whistles raw power deep searcher. However I have been flirting with the White's V3i and the Vx3. Saltwater beach performance, coin depth of detection, ease of use, tone id, etc etc.
Just looking for opinions. I mostly coin and relic hunt in fields and old parks and I hit the beach in the winter for old coins after storms and in the Summer for Gold. Currently I use the GT.

Thanks in advance

I think its all down to knowledge of the detector. Really easy with any Minelab Sovereign to make deep finds. In my case its no notch, no discrimination and normally out of auto. With the Whites its possible to wander out of the pre-set programmes and think you have really set the detector up as hot as possible while in fact you may have optimised to one specific target type that might not be the one you would most like to find.

The great thing with the Sovereigns is that if its a driving rain storm on the beach you can be set up in no time and close your waterproofs over the detector as as you will know there's no need to continue tweaking or view a meter.

The big plus of the Whites is you can run it much faster. With three miles of sand in front of you its often better to cover more ground in a set time.

I think your comments on the Sovereign GT are exactly in tune with mine. Sometimes it is hard to resist the new machine on the market. But Like you said it is easy to go deep with the GT with minimal effort. I set my GT the same as yours.

Thanks for the reply.
However I woiuld like to still hear from people who went froma Sovereign GT to a White's V detector.

Thanks again

Still me I'm afraid. I could beat the performance of the Sovereign with the V3 but with much more effort and (this is what forced me to part with the DFX) only for a limited area of ground ie on a large field I found the best results would be at quite different settings on one side to the other.

Those with hundreds of acres of fairly flat ground would not find it a problem but I'm in a hilly area where its like a layer cake of different levels of mineralisations where just allowing the Whites to track without other adjustments didn't provide the best results. Also with the Whites I didn't really like either coil that much so the first move would always be to fit a SEF coil.

And just were abouts is this Hilly area Brian

I am not a big fan of screens on detectors an consider them a toy feature than can slow down on your fun. Time spent adjusting programs leaves open the though of maybe I should increase the gain for example. Many Hunters like screens and if that is your bag, fine. Brian about nails it for me. You also have to consider the costs too.

Inland Wales, Silver Searcher. I have a one acre garden on a slope and mineralisation ranges from low, through medium to high. Its handy for testing detectors if nothing else.

Bit far for me:unhappysmiley:
I'm thinking of a new detector, I might pick your brains, the GMP is fine on the ploughed...but I'm losing depth on setteled fields.

I hate to say it but on pasture I keep returning to my old Nautilus DMC's (I keep a different size coil on each one). Batteries on the outside, old fashioned looking, no proper control box cover but I love them.

I was thinking more like Etraq, using in all metal on quiet fields..it's just the extra weight.

I've no problem there as my DMC's outperform Explorers/E-Tracs/Deus. The all metal mode that is the primary search mode, combined with the concentric coils used identifies the iron that breaks through the discrimination levels of other detectors, however high they are set, with the standard discrimination taking care of small ferrous.
Drawback is they are a little more complicated to set up as you need to balance the coil windings (this has been automated on the "A" version but you lose the full range sensitivity controls) and no DD or third party coils.

Not considered the Deus in its all metal mode ?

Saltwater beach performance? You cannot beat the Minelab Sovereign GT Metal Detector | Big Boys Hobbies with its multi frequency!

I have a PERFECT condition refurbished one on my site for a great price! Call me, I am willing to move it! Minelab Sovereign GT Refurbished | Big Boys Hobbies

The Sovereigns have always been good wet sand detectors but "the best" is only a claim a non beach hunter could make !

Sovereign Gt is best metal detector its my idea. HH Hamid

Yes I have, but there are a lot of things to go wrong with it, but I like the fact you can program from the headphones and leave the box in the car. But then there's the price.

Quite agree. Lots to go wrong. Unlikely to be any third party coils which means the XP ones will stay way overpriced. The junk you need to carry with you to boost the batteries in the field. Wet beach performance. Inability the run frequencies together etc etc.

My last XP was sold a few weeks back, just can't get the listing to work since the upgrade.

For me i think Sovereign GT is best than White V3i.

The GT is easy to use but many who are prepared to put the time in and are not happy with a slower sweep speed find the V3 more productive as it can be set up to work at a much faster speed allowing you to get to the productive parts of the beach whilst the GT user is still plodding away near where he first walked on.
