I was asked to pass this on by Dave at the Minelab Repair center at Kellyco, they have stopped doing the PP mod until further notice due to the back log of detectors. It is a very time consuming mod, especially when your talking about doing it on multiple detectors. They have also stopped doing Excal coil mods till further notice.....Any detectors that are already received with requests for the coil mods will be installed, any detectors shipped after October 1st requesting pp or coil mods will not be worked till further notice.........

Headphone mods are still being done.

The pp mod extends the pp/desc switch to the handle with a thumb switch to switch between pp and desc mode. The coil mods are installing larger coils on the excals, you have to custom build the end cap for the larger coils.

Another problem coil mods is there can be some instability in the motherboard that isn't apparent with the 8" or 10' coil, but very apparent with a larger coil like a 15" coil which magnifies the problem..

Wow you would have to be really lazy or a handicap person to need that mod...

On straight shafts the controls are behind your elbow to counter balance the weight of the coils and it is not convenient to switch back and forth between pp and desc as you have to reach across your body and over your shoulder to switch, it has nothing to do with being lazy or handicap.

many of us hunt in all metal/pp mode and switch to desc to see if it nulls before digging...

You don't have a clue what your talking about. It has absolutely nothing to do with being lazy.......The tech they hired in April, quit in August due to personal problems back home and had to move home to help family. They have been looking for help, it isn't an easy position to fill either...

Said nobody who has ever had it done! :laughing7: Makes hunting with the Excal so much easier and increases the number of targets you can find in a given period of time.

Only you Keppy... LOL

I agree with Keppy, keep those excals stock and hunt in disc...

Time for minelab to redesign a new excal with a straight shaft and pinpoint from factory.

That would be sweet if they would.....however......they would still need a repair center!

Thanks for the continued updates TH, hope the repair center can find another good tech. Nothing worse than getting someone trained and having them leave....even if it is a good reason like the last one had.

Any mods for the etrac I can look forward to

Other than making it lighter, what would you like to see in a mod? My picks....Glareproof screen. Better arm rest and lower stand. Improved shaft locking system where you can compensate for wear.

Yes it does need some work on the screen. I hate taking my environmental cover off even when it's not moit outside and it's almost impossible to see with that on. Never thought about the shaft locking attachment but I can see where over time that may become an issue especially with lots of use

I swap coils a lot and the shafts start to get some play in them and will work loose after while. Pretty annoying. I'm using my old Explorer XS upper shaft now on my heavy 15" coil. That baby doesn't come loose! It's a slightly different design and fits a lot tighter in the E-trac head....so tight in fact....I don't have to latch it! (and can't latch it all the way for that matter). I put my NEL snake coil on the old worn E-trac upper shaft. It doesn't have enough weight to make it work loose. I know what you mean on the display. Impossible to see in the bright sun and blinds you when you try! Put the hood on and you can't see anything at all. It might as well be a black plastic bag. If you have a dim or dark environment, it's not too bad with the back light on. At least good aftermarket arm rests are available.
