Reading some of the post in this forum about Minelab and its change of hands over the years and what some feel is poor customer service now iam not sure about getting a Excal II in the next 2 months i had my mind made up that's the detector i wanted but now :dontknow: it seems a lot of machines are being returned before there warranties are up for repairs and people have to wait months to get them back and being charged a lot of money to fix them , or is it just a fluke thing most company's have, not every detector made is perfect i know that there's always bugs in some no matter what brand , now iam at a stand still not sure what to get if any one has there opinion let me know . I have a Minelab GT i got on ebay used the warrantie was up i have had no problems with since i got it i love that machine . Thanks for any help Jim

Jim, people aren't waiting months to get their Excals or other Minelab detectors back, I got mine back both of the times I had to send it in last year in about 21 working days. Once because one side of the headset stop working (broken wire), once because I cracked the coil. Some people get impatient

There are people who have been waiting for over 10 months to get their Tesoro Tiger Sharks back from Tesoro repair because Tesoro couldn't get the waterproof connectors needed for the repairs. Does that make Tesoro bad, no...They are just having a problem finding a new source for the connectors, but it still sucks for those who detectors are there waiting for parts.....

I have 4 Minelabs and would not hesitate to buy another if the price is right.............

Good luck sir...

The longest I have heard of is 27 working days and that was over the Christmas / New Years holidays when you expect it to take longer. I know some that had repairs in 14 days also durring the summer so it just depends on the time of year, type of problem, and if there are holidays involved.

They used to make them in Ireland and Australia. Now gonna be made/ Assembled in Malaysia. I guess when I get one it will have to be an older model. Explorer 2

All this is old news though. I really like my Dad's Explorer XS.

The site is part of Plexus (http://www.plexus.com/index.php) the leader world-wide in product manufacturing & development. They are a world class provider with their Worldwide Headquarters in Wisconsin, U.S.A. with manufacturing facilitiy locations all over the world including Malaysia.

I've got a Minelab E-trac. After about 6 months I had a problem with it. It wouldn't turn on. I sent it to Minelab USA. They had it for about 3 weeks and sent it back with a new printed circuit board. It has been working great ever since. And I've found a lot of silver coins with it. Here's a great hunt I had with it after I got it back:

Found some more silver with it this past Saturday. (It was unseasonably warm for January here in Ohio.) I was angry my detector failed and that I had to wait for it to be fixed. I was impatient. However Trina at Minelab was very friendly and I actually got my detector back a week earlier than she predicted. It was still under warranty and I didn't have to pay for the repair. In retrospect, Minelab did a great job. I've had people who owned Whites, Garretts and Fishers tell me they've had problems too. These things happen. We just hope they happen to "the other guy." I know guys who have Minelabs that have never had a problem.

I am still a die hard Minelab user. It's the best detector I've ever used. So don't let the stories (including mine) scare you off.

What a day Gibsondan! Great video, too! I would say that Minelabs have quality and technolegy. :icon_thumleft:

minelabs are pretty good detector but I believe the GoldMaxx Power walks all over the best minelab and a lot lower in price! Just my opinion and thinking about buying one this trip to the UK.

I have an Xterra 705 and it is a good machine. Some of the MLs will be made in Australia, the gold machines I believe I read.

I won't buy a new one that is made in Malasia. Muslim nation ya know.

However I would buy a machine made in Australia or a used machine.

Go figure
Jeff

I have had good luck with the Minelabs I owned. HH Ron

I have explorer xs in my opinion its very good made quality, but they are technologically past or dinosaurs. in Malaysia they can make quality like in USA or Europe, usually people who works in assembly lines don't do science, they just connect B to A. that's all, but time or era for long lasting machine are different. all producers want you to buy and consume again -not to give second hand life-, and be thirsty to new and more expensive models. and sometimes we spend more time in buying ,,very good stuff,, then using them in the Fields. compare any mobile phone and explorer. mobile phone do much more-still not MD, but its only still, they made better and cost less. its like new laptop, best made in South Korea, but not in the Europe or USA. I used xp goldmaxx for some time its good ,but not better explorer, its only my experience. future looks like XP DEUS http://www.xpmetaldetectors.com/uk_index.php but I don't know much about this metal detector, only know in Lithuania its cost around 1650$-to to much

At some point purchases become as much political as quality. There are plenty of quality machines out there that are not made in nations which are "officially" of a religion that is terrorist by when practiced at a fundamental and strict level.

As for ML, I am torn because they build some GREAT machines. I own one and 4 coils for it.

I am simply stating that my next machine will be from another mfg. Then I will do some more research before I pull the trigger. It may turn out that I may not be able to purchase a machine that upholds my personal, moral values.

If I am not mistaken there are other manufactures who have had quality problems when they have shifted manufacturing from one country to another. In some product lines I have first hand knowledge that this particular result has taken place. Some countries have a people who simply produce a superior manufacturing base. Then to these quality lines shift over a period of decades. There was a time that made in Japan meant junk. Now made in Japan is synonymous with high quality.

Plexus who will be doing the manufacturing for Minelab is an American Company, home office is in the U.S.A. They have manufacturing facility locations all over the world including Malaysia. They are ranked 950 of America's 1000 largest corporations per Fortune 500 2009 final ranking. The work itself may be done in Malaysia, but the detectors will be built by an American company with a great reputation....I personally have no concerns at all

As far as not buying anything from Malaysia, their primary exports are Bauxite, Cocoa, Copper, Crude Oil, Electronic Components, Iron Ore, Liquefied Natural Gas, Palm Oil, Petroleum, Pepper, Pineapples, Rubber, Timber, and Tin.

The computer your using has a real good chance it contains electronic components from Malaysia right now, as well as the tires on the car you drive can easily be made from Malaysian rubber, and the cocoa you drink, also..... It is next to impossible to isolate ourselves from buying products made in a certain country...........

I think sometimes people expect things should happen a little faster then they do.

Holidays seasons make everything go slower and take longer. From shipping to

the time it takes things to get fixed or shipped.

I have my Etrac in there right now being fixed, and I am very happy with the

things are going so far. I just made a post about it.

But, to answer your question imho I just think sometimes some people are never happy

with the way things work out in life. It can be anything from waiting longer in line

to the food they wanted to the price they pay for things.

Being in business myself I know there is 3% of the people you do not want to do

business with. It's just human nature.

I hope everyone has a nice night and the snow melts fast for us snowbound folk.

Keep the machines on and swing slow :P

Great video those Merc,s are in great shape :icon_thumleft: 8 in 1 hunt thats a hard one to top, you convinced me about Minelab made up my mind Thanks HH Jim

As more and more people come into the hobby we are bound to get those that are impatient and vocal about everything so natch we hear more about everything. People seem to whine about everything including the wife is sleeping with the guy across the street. I consider this something to be happy about cause now she isn't bugging me.

The quality is still there but I think the customer service has slipped after the take over with less people in that dept to answer phones and emails. It is good for others to report their troubles so it gives us feed back.
