No you only need to turn it on and maybe ground balance if you want. The programs are intutitive and pinpointing is easier. You do not need to touch another button while searching. The pinpoint button is the only one you need to push to to turn pinpoint on and off.

Hope this helps,

Thanks sandman, but why all the buttons then?

To change how you use the machine. There is a computer type menu system that you can fiddle with how the machine sounds off on different targets, null out certain targets, etc. Great machine and worth the money!

On my EXP II the only one I change in the field is the sensitivity. It is accessed through the main screen that is always on top, so it could not be easier. The Minelab saves the last settings so you can start where you left off or put in a saved program. Not hard at all.

Post, those things are some serious machines. I was out yesterday with a member here. Here I am with a Bounty Hunter 1100 and here is Phil with this Minelab Explorer. The thing looked like the leg of a lunar lander and made my machine look like a broomstick. Phil demonstrated an air test and I was amazed at how high he was holding this thing while it was still picking up a signal. He let me test drive it........I went home with two sore arms. Awesome machine nonethless.
