dug 3 of these at an old mill in S.C. anyone know their value ?

What it says is "Good for 5 pounds of Rice"
that's where the hole is.
all three where punched like that.
this was the best of the three.....

According to Tony Chibbaro's book, South Carolina Tokens, the denomination is actually 5 pounds of ice. This one and one for 10 pounds of ice are listed along with one from the spooling department of the Buffalo Cotton Mills that just has a "5" for a denomination. He does not list values in his book, so I can't help there. He does say that the Buffalo Cotton Mill was first listed in 1904 and in later years became part of Union-Buffalo Mills.

A cotton mill was the center of industry here in my home town for years and I never recall them using ice for any process in spinning cottton into cloth. Perhaps it was good for ice to cool down the workers as it got awfully hot inside those mills? JIM

Unfortunately,

most anything found in that condition (coins, tokens, buttons, tags, etc.) with holes, bent, corroded, pitted, etc. have very little to no monetary value, but they are still nice to find, and treasure as artifacts!
