Thank you guys for all the info on this piece. How rare is this style of buckle?

Dig until your arm falls off

Regarding rarity, I've seen only a few broken center discs of this design, such as you have (the stamped brass Tongue & Wreath buckles commonly break at the weakest point, right where the bend is in the bridge portion leading to the belt loop). As far as whole complete stamped brass buckle tongues featuring this Drooped Wing Eagle design, I've maybe seen only a half dozen or less.

My own collection of Tongue & Wreath buckles, most of which are excavated being found by myself and my father, is over 300 items (both tongues as well as wreaths). This particular style is not among any of my own examples (although I have several of the correct matching wreaths).

P.S.
recondigger,
Where approximately in Western New York are you located? I'm originally from that vicinity myself.

I just wanted to add this, the second flask on here,is similar.
Powder Flasks

If I can find the image of and get permission from my friend who owns the set,I will post a picture of the buckle and the matching powder flask....its a near exact match(the flask,to the Eagle on the buckle)

Not sure on that one,but likely. We dig an awful lot of those/style in mid 19th Cent. sites, for some reason they are always complete...not attached to anything?

Kurger thanks again that's the same buckle for sure. I wish the one we found was complete but it's still a good find.
