Here's hoping this piece can be reunited with this vet's family. Good luck in your endeavor, and good save.

I'll search for him on FamilySeach tomorrow and post what I find.

I remember my Gramps had a wall plaque hanging on the wall at his work office. Was a similar piece honoring his years of service. He retired after 20 years in the Navy. Dunno why it always turns into grave's and coffin's around here. Hope not. But good luck with the research everyone. :coffee2:

If the right guy, he'd be 82 now, African American.
This could help ? - It's from 1999.

I don't think it is a from a burial. I think it was a service plaque for display.

I suppose it could be from either. My father-in-law had a small plaque like that affixed to his headstone in lieu of the larger bronze plaque often seen at the foot of a grave.

Great research. I hope this finds its way back to this veterans family. I'm sure it would be meaningful.

Strong & Jones Funeral Home is still in business. Perhaps they could pass your number to a family member and have them contact you.

I don't believe this is from a grave marker, those plaques are more robust. This appears to be the standard brass plaque that is affixed to a command/service plaque when you pull chocks and retire.

It's most likely from a Retirement Shadow Box, Retirement or Internment Flag Case, or part of an Retirement Award Plaque I don't have access to my stuff as it's still packed up post Hurricane Michael, but here's a picture of the plaque on my dad's internment flag, which the brass plate on it shows his service dates.

I say this as the one the OP posted shows service dates versus birth and death dates. Also based on being associated with the Military my entire life.

All, here is an Archie in the 1940 U.S. Census found on FamilySearch. If this is one in the same, he was 2 years old and the son of Willie and Zora. Also lists the names of his older brother and younger sister. Was unable to find more on him except the 1945 Florida Census that offered less information. Checking with the funeral home and/or the US Navy are probably better bets.

Unable to find him on Fold3, which seems odd given he is a military retiree. Since he retired in 1975, the 1973 St. Louis fire shouldn't have claimed his discharge and pension records. A long shot may be to look for him on fastpeoplesearch.com. I found a WWII Army Air Corp locket last year and used that website to help locate a son of the deceased owner. The locket was returned to him, who in turn, gave it to his daughter.
